Re: BF4 trying to launch DirectX10? (APPCRASH nvwgf2umx.dll)

Since the Dec 16th patch I have been unable to get BF4 to launch due to the below crash.  The fact that I could play fine before the patch but not after leads me to conclude its a problem that EA has introduced in the latest patch.

I have tried several of the "fixes" on the forums but none have worked.  **edit**  I am running two nvidia 560 ti's with the 314.22 drivers as those are the only ones that will work with BF4 for me **edit**

Any word from EA or DICE on this?

Thanks.

No comment from EA on this?  Awesome customer support...cant even play the game since the Dec 16/China Rising update.

  • This is a very dubious error.

I was investigating crashes with BF4 on my dad's machine. He always crashes 5-10 minutes into every round. Strange enough, we both have more or less the same system and use the same settings in Game (All Ultra, post AA off, blur effects off):

    Windows: 8.1 Pro x64

    CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K @ 4.4 GHz
    CPU-Fan: Corsair Hydro Series H100
    Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H w/ Z77 Chipset (USB 3.0 & S-ATA/600)
    RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-1600MHz G.Skill (Ripjaws-Series)
GPU: nVidia GF Gainward GTX 690 w/ 4096MB GDDR5 RAM
    HDD: 1000GB Seagate ST1000DM003 S-ATA/600

The only differences are our system SSDs. Plus I have a SoundBlaster Recon 3D PCIe sound board in my rig, whereas he uses onboard sound.

I have no problems whatsoever, just some connection issues now and then and server crashes. However, his game simply refuses to run for more than 5-10 minutes and quits with the well-known "bf4.exe stopped working" thingie.

In the Error log made by Windows, we found that dubious dll file nvwgf2umx.dll. And since wonder why we get the error on his system and not on mine.

This is really frustrating. Perhaps someone with more insight on the developer's side would eventually make contact. We can provide him with system logs and other stuff from both our systems. Seems a good way to me to narrow down things.

Anyway: Don't give up everybody. Perhaps we will see a fix soon. For now, I think Dice made a hell of an effort to fix things. This is extremely complex software after all.

    regards
