Re: BF4 won't launch

skyttnator, oh man I cannot belive you are still having problems!

I've asked before, but in TASKMANAGER and PROCESSES is PnkBstrA.exe showing up? If not then Punkbuster is your problem.

Avast can have problems with Bf4 for some bizarre reason so double check that Bf4.exe, the entire Bf4 folder, the Bf4 folder in your C/Documents folder, Origin and its folder, Pnkbuster and its folder (basically anything connected to BF4 - espceially any file Bf4/Origin-related ending in .exe) is allowed through your Avast anti virus and any firewall.

No, no punkbuster exe's show up, however I can play BF3 just fine and they do initiate punkbuster.  Punkbuster setup does show that BF4 is present and up to date, it just will not initiate. I have added pretty much everything I can think of to my avast! exceptions list.

I do not have punkbuster added, I am not sure of the file path.

Add me to the list of having this same problem.  I've done all that is said here.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled Battlefield 4.  This is very frustrating.  It is like bf4.exe doesn't work.  Just sticks at initializing.  I have to go to task manager and close it just to try to restart it again.  Tired of having to contact EA tech support every time I buy one of their games.  Battlefield 3 however works just fine.  So that for sure cancels it out being a punkbuster or battlelog problem.  We are not the only ones who have this problem.  I have searched the web and found numerous people that have this happening but no one seems to have a fix.  My stepsons works just fine.  So frustrating.

Hey, at least we are getting the attention that a customer deserves, especially after 2 months of having the game and not being able to even so much as launch the campaign or test range.  Wait..

Haha!!  Wow 2 months huh only at 2 weeks.  Just talked to EA Advisor today they couldn't figure it out.  Referring me to a level 3 advisor have a feeling they won't be able to figure it out either.  Its a very strange problem.   When you load yours up with Origin "offline" does it start up except its a big black block?

  • So I finally after much frustration and by myself figured out what was causing my problem.  My Logitech G930 headset and Battlefield are some how conflicting causing Battlefield 4 not to launch.  I'm thinking its a BF4 issue because they work just fine with every other game I play.  I had to unhook them restart the computer and then the game launched.  So hope this helps anyone else from further frustration.

    Do you overclock your CPU?

While trying to solve my FPS drop issue (some suggested overclocking my solve it) i overclocked my CPU by 5% and while everything looked fine on teh surface, I notced one of CPU cores was unstable and at the same time BF4 wouldnt load... it would appear in Task Manager for 1 or 2 second then close. Try using the stress testing software Prime95, it will show if any of your cores are unstable.

I reduced my CPU back to normal settings and BF4 booted fine again.... still get the FPS drops though ☹️
