The shortcut kits only unlock the vanilla game weapons. None of the DLC weapons are unlocked through the shortcut kits. Example here from Battlelog with the DLC Assault Rifles marked:
For your statements, then you bought the access to play the game with its given design and weapon/vehicle unlock mechanics. And with that, the ability to unlock certain weapons depending on your accomplishments in the game. You didn't buy the entitlement to have all Premium DLC guns from the get go. And honestly, not much difference across the many weapons in the game, so its not like if you dont have a certain weapon, then all is bad.
Now depending on what weapons you are after, then it shouldn't be that hard really to accomplish the tasks to the unlock them. Its typically done through ordinary gameplay anyway. You say that you like Metro. And you will be able to unlock most weapons there anyway. Best advice is always to find a high ticket server (Metro or any other), as that gives you ample time also to complete the various requirements that often needs to be done in same single game round to complete a given assignment.
