as @INicexixI said you do have some advantages if you purchase the game via Origin, for example the Great Games Guarantee where you might be able to return the game (terms and conditions apply) if it shouldn't work or if you change your mind.

But to give you a definite answer: The important part about the purchase is not the physical medium but the product code. In order to play the game, you just have to enter the product code in Origin. Once redeemed and added to your account, you can download it to any device you are logged on to - one at a time, since you can only be logged on to one device at a time of course. But you can download the game completely and do not need the disc, even if you purchase a physical copy.
