Re: How do you save progress in the campaign?

Hey @918dcd792766e6ba

there are certain savegame points in the game. If you didn't reach the point or an error on your system occurred while saving, then you'll have to start the mission again.

Cheers,
Val

  • Are these "savegame points" distinct from checkpoints? The game periodically displays a blinking icon in the upper righthand corner. If I die during a mission or choose restart checkpoint from the pause menu gameplay resumes at the most recent of these checkpoints. It's only after exiting the game and launching it again that progress moves backwards by entire missions (and many such checkpoints). It seems as if saving progress at checkpoints works perfectly fine while playing the game but does not persist correctly across play sessions.

Sounds as if your Xbox One has problems either writing on the internal hard drive or uploading your progress to the cloud. Did you open the ports for Battlefield already?

  • It's very strange to me that there's an accepted solution in this thread when I haven't seen any solution posted. Does EA just mark things as solved without any consideration whether the original poster's problem has been solved?

My console does not have any problems saving progress in any game other than Battlefield 4 so it seems relatively unlikely that there's a hard drive or networking problem. I don't understand the ports suggestion at all. Does BF4 bypass somehow bypass the console's built-in cloud storage mechanism with it's own bespoke system to sync save data? If not there's no sensible reason that saving in BF4 would require different network connectivity than every other xbox game.

Based on this thread, it appears this is actually a well known issue. wherein EA released a broken game and never bothered to fix it. It's frustrating, of course, that  EA never fixed fundamental gameplay problems, but it's also frustrating that despite the fact this issue has been observed for multiple years by multiple users across multiple platforms the community response isn't a more straightforward explanation that this is a known issue with no fix.

As far as I can tell there is no mechanism to reliably save progress in the campaign. The only reliable way to avoid losing progress is to not buy this game in the first place.

Another follow-up: I played through South China Sea yet again, then played through all of Singapore, then played through all of Kunlun and finally turned the game off. Next time I started the game? Campaign resumes at the beginning of South China Sea. This is just a horrifically, embarrassingly broken game for this mean years past launch.

This is completely unhelpful and NOT a solution. It is impossible for the Original Poster to have not hit a single checkpoint/save point and make it to any level after the first. I've had to restart my campaign twice. First time I finished the first level and started the second, but quit. Then I had to restart and made it to the third level and quit. Afterwards, when I clicked campaign it let me choose to continue or pick a level. I ended up playing Multiplayer for a bit then going back to campaign only to find I had to restart from the beginning. My Xbox One has ZERO issues with saving on any other game and this is obviously a problem on EA's or DICE's side.
