Re: [PC] Red Screen+Crashing

You have offered no information from your thermal monitoring software to eliminate overheating, nor any age and ratings information on your power supply, in case it is overloaded or overage.

Thermal monitoring said the GPU stays around 60C. My power supply is a Rosewill 600w performance series. Sorry for not mentioning that earlier, I had to dig up the box to find that out. The whole PC build is 3-4 years old and I don't believe the power supply is especially trustworthy, however, can a bad PSU cause red screen crashes? I'm not really sure how to test whether my power supply is faulty, but I will read up on that if you think it's a good idea.

Yes a failing or underpowered PSU can create crashes if the GPU isn't getting the power that it needs.  Your rig looks pretty close to the minimum specs, what graphical settings are you running, have you tried lowering them? If so did it make any difference?

    MINIMUM SPECS
    • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
    • Processor (AMD): AMD FX-6350
    • Processor (Intel): Core i5 6600K
    • Memory: 8GB RAM
    • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ HD 7850 2GB
    • Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce® GTX 660 2GB
    • DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
    • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
    • Hard-drive space: 50GB
    RECOMMENDED SPECS
    • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
    • Processor (AMD): AMD FX 8350 Wraith
    • Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 4790 or equivalent
    • Memory: 16GB RAM
    • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ RX 480 4GB

    Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce®

I know my PC can run it well, it has run well before on medium graphics. I don't want to jump the gun but I think I found the problem. I went through everything I've installed since I started having these crashes and they started at about the same time I installed the program Speedfan. I read Speedfan had caused similar crashes for people before. I can't speak as to why this is, but I haven't had a crash since uninstalling Speedfan. I was using it to monitor temperatures, I'll use hwmonitor from now on. Alternatingly, a 3 gigabyte update came out recently so perhaps that was what fixed my problem... Anyway, I'm just glad it works again, thank you for your help 🙂
