Generally speaking if you're dying down there then it usually means you're going in the wrong direction, or you're not fully healing between drops. Both caused me to die a few times back when I unlocking the gun.
It would definitely be worth going to BFEE for some help, but if you add a video of what's happening I'm sure people will offer some suggestions. Could be something simple.
*Edit: Just to check, you have all 5 dog tags I take it?
Everything (minus "The Room") will need to be completed before you can acquire the gun so please make sure you've earned everything. If you have, I reckon it's dropping through the floor that is eating up too much health.
