Re: Test connection to BF1 server Australia

Yes, there are Australian BF1 servers, they show up in game with Australian flags in the 'Oceania' region.

Ping is not an issue, it's mostly around 80-85ms so that should be fine.  Wireless or via ethernet cable makes no difference, if I connect to my router wirelessly and use a VPN then I can join multiplayer games without the problem occurring.  When I tried a mobile hotspot my laptop connects to my phone wirelessly which then connects to the internet using 4G via my mobile provider, this also worked fine and I did not get the server disconnected problem - this burned through my mobile data for the month in about 3 sessions though...

Response from my ISP was as I expected: "Our engineers were unable to detect any network issues that is effecting your service. Please further check this issue with EA as they are controlling and managing the incoming traffic to their network".

I'll take my laptop to a friends and see if I get the issue if I connect through their ISP.

Any other suggestions are very welcome?

    🤔

No, i don´t have other suggestions, sorry.

Trying your friends ISP is a good idea 👍

You have already and successfully tried some solutions, it sounds like your ISP could be  the problem.

Hopefully your friends ISP works with your PC so that you can change yours soon.

    Good luck 🙂

  • Tried through the friend's ISP - its a different provider.  Unfortunately same result, had slightly better ping of around 60ms, but got kicked after a minute or so with the server disconnected message.  So my hardware is fine (as I can play multiplayer through VPN or mobile hotspot), ISP looks a little less suspect (as my ISP said the network is fine and also it's less likely (albeit still possible..) that 2 different ISP's would have the same problem), so l reckon this starts to point to something on the EA side.  Agree?

I logged a case with EA (via help.ea.com) and they asked me to run UOTrace, provided the results (4 IP's in the list showed 100% packet loss although I'm not sure what that means..) and the case has now been passed on to the 'technical team'.  So hopefully that'll result in something...

I agree that it´s something between a normal Australian ISP and EA Servers.

Hopefully EA will solve this, I´m running out of ideas, I think you have tried everything you can.

Could you play via VPN permanently if there won´t be a satisfactory result? Would there be any disadvantages?

  • Yep, I'd have to pay for a VPN.  Currently using a free one through Avira which only gives 1GB of traffic, prob lasts around 5-6 hrs of multiplayer games or so.

I didn´t know that, never needed one. So that´s no solution. ☹️

Sorry again, I still hope this is just some sort of technical issue that can be fixed 🤞

  • Quick update - issue has been fixed.  The EA helpdesk, although very responsive, were not that helpful - they just pointed met to all the things I had tried already.

Then contacted my ISP again who suggested trying a port forwarding tool.

Downloaded a tool called 'smart port forwarding' from a website called softpedia.com.  Created 1 rule for port UDP 3659 (picked that one as a lot of posts seem to mention problems with 3659). Before launching BF1 i run the tool and activate the 3659 forwarding rule and voila, I've had no more server disconnected errors since.

I did have manually created forwarding rules for port 3659 in my router and also in windows 10 - not sure why those didn't work and it does work when using that tool.

Anyways, I've rolled back all the other settings I tried previously, and the port forwarding tool works fine still, so I'd recommend giving it a go for those who've had the same server disconnected issue.

    Cheers.
