Solved

SLI texture flickering problem

I had this problem a few updates ago and it was fixed but now it's back. I have 2x770GTX and the latest Nvidia driver, older drivers didn't work, other games work fine. Disabling SLI fixes it. Here is a video of the bug.

OK I installed Origin on Windows 7 and pointed the installation to my SSD, no flickering and SLI working! So I did two things at the same time and I'm not sure which fixed it. I uninstalled DisplayLink driver, this is a driver for my USB monitor, this actually fixed a problem I was having whereby everytime I uninstalled the Nvidia driver my system would crash, screen went black and it got stuck in a loop, had to force a shut down. The exact same thing happened when I tried to disable SLI, basically DisplayLink and SLI don't get along, the developers know it and have out right dropped support for it but on the whole it works fine with SLI.

The other thing I did was uninstall the Nvidia driver, reboot in safe mode and Driver Sweep, then restart and Uninstall both cards from Device manager, funnily one card had an explanation mark on it, shut down, took the second card out, loaded windows and installed latest driver, shut down, put the second card in and no more flickering in BF4.

I think it's more likely that something got corrupted during the crashes when I uninstalled the Nvidia driver due to Displaylink driver, actually one time the Nvidia icon was still present after I uninstalled, crashed and rebooted and even after Driver Sweeping the new installer said it was removing something before installing the new driver. Anyhow, seems fixed now thankfully.

Does not one else with SLI have this problem?

No I don't have that issue and I use SLI.

Try going to nVidia Control Panel, 3D Settings, Program Settings.

    Select BF4

Change SLI to Render Frames 2  (assuming it's on nVidia default, if it isn't on nVidia default make it that)

You might also check (if that was on default)  to see if your SLI on your global settings isn't set to something non-default.

I have tried many different Inspector settings, none of them fixed the flickering. Only thing that works is setting every in SLI to 1 card and single frame rendering (disables SLI). Using 337.88. really frustrating because this issue was fixed a few patches ago but now it's back but only for me it seems!?

  • What happens if you keep both cards on but play in window mode anything but full screen?

    Edit....

Also make sure your power on PC and in control panel are set to performance. I hope this helps  :womanhappy:

Windowed mode disables SLI so the textures stop flickering. I use Process Lasso, for sure my CPU is at full Turbo speed and GFX card is set to performance too but I don't see how these things could corrupt textures anyhow. Maybe I should try uninstalling and reinstalling.

  • Is it any chance its the Process Lasso doing it making the issue? I dont know the program off hand but I do know programs we use  when in game can make issues in BF4. Have you ever turned it off when in BF4 to test this? A list of things to look at first for you and I hope it helps fix this for you :] Keep me posted would like to see you be able to play issue free :]

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you set everything as Admin ....

    Run the game as Administrator:
Go to the Origin games folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4) and find Bf4.exe. Right click it and go to PROPERTIES, then COMPATIBILITY and check the box next to RUN THIS PROGRAM AS ADMINISTRATOR.
Do the same with BF4_x86.exe as well.

    Run Origin as Administrator:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin and right click on Origin.exe and go to properties. Then go to compatibility tab and check the box next to RUN AS ADMIN.

    Disable Origin in game:
In Origin - Application settings - Origin in Game - disable Origin in game

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you do do a clean install of BF4 make sure you do this...

BF4 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF4 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF4 it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues.

1- Go to my Documents and remove BF4 folder place it on your Desktop or trash.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
    3-Repair BF4
4- When done go test your game.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the off chance try this and test your windows for errors ... for me when I had windows issues I did not know it as the only time any issue show up was in BF4 on my PC

    Test your windows for errors
This works in all windows O/S vista win 7,8 and 8.1 windows system file checker :]

...... sfc /scannow ..... ever hear of it if not your going to love this .... it will inspect all the important windows files as well as the windows DLL files. If windows system file checker finds any issues with the windows files and windows DLL files it will replace them. This little tool as well as the event viewer saved me and fully helped me fix my BF4 issues as well as saved my .... many a format since I found it. This is the best toy they ever put in windows :]

1 - Open administrator command prompt and close web pages and programs like origin.

2 - Type or copy and paste in sfc /scannow and hit enter, This takes 5 min to 15 min SSD vs HD

3 - This can go one of a few ways ..... no errors ... it fixed some errors ..... could not fix all errors...... does not finish checking and errors out ....... and the last one could not fix errors at all :/

4 -After its done reboot and do it again even if you had no errors the first time or had errors, could not fix ... run sfc /scannow again and when its done a second time reboot. You need to do this a and get no errors 2 x in a row ...

5- So if you ran it 2x and no errors your safe you can stop now for now lol, If you had errors first time but not the second then run sfc /scannow again and when its done reboot. You need to get could not find any errors 2 x to be safe. If it still finds errors try and run it a few more times until it finds no errors 2x AND ALWAYS REBOOT BETWEEN RUNNING sfc /scannow

6 - If you get a message indicating that it can not be repaired and you ran sfc /scannow more then 3x in a row on win vista or 7 mm you need a format :/ But after format and all updates are done run sfc /scannow to make sure your windows is stable same deal 2x error free reboot between, then If your O/S is Win8 or Win 8,1 then you can run this next command / line in administrator command prompt. Sadly this does not work for win vista or 7 :/ It will restore the health of your PC and you dont lose anything

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ------- ONLY works for windows 8 and 8.1

7 - When its done reboot

Hi thanks for trying to help. Windows reported no error after doing it twice, this installation is only a few months old. Tried reinstalling and deleting files in Documents, it made no difference.

I didn't actually test windowed mode before, thought it would disable SLI but the SLI indicator is showing SLI activity in windowed mode and the textures are still flickering. All other games work fine but I don't understand why no one else is having these SLI issues. I've also tried Driver Sweeper in safe boot, I remember having problems removing the driver, the Nvidia installation wouldn't disappear from Add/Remove programs for a while even after removing and rebooting, problems seemed to start after I tried to disable SLI which crashes my PC everytime which I think is related to my EVGA Superclocked cards, have read about overclocking causing problems with enabling/disabling SLI.

But other games run fine in SLI right now so I'm inclined to think it's a BF4 issues. I will try to remove the driver again and then uninstall from device manager, then maybe remove a second card and add it later, maybe there is a conflict some where but I would have thought Driver Sweeper would sort that out and as I said, other games are running as expected in SLI.

  • Well its good your windows is stable so that is off the table :] What about disable over clocking and test it. It could be from that as well or have you already tried this? I know it fully works for some but for other people over clocking makes nothing but issues.
