State of Battlefield 3 in 2025

Had a few questions with regards to BF3 about a few servers that have recently popped up that have Punkbuster disabled. Always been my understanding that a server owner can disable Punkbuster but that server is no longer Ranked. We have three newer servers all that have Punkbuster disabled at the request of the owners that are taking population away from well established servers that have it enabled. As a result there has been a explosion of cheaters in the game and no resolution other then admins banning obvious cheaters along with some 3rd party tools like Battlefield Agency catching linked accounts.

There are a bunch of the loyal core community who have been playing almost 15 years who are not happy being subjected to this environment and if it continues the established servers will cease to exist leaving legit players with no place to play anymore. Can something be done about this like enforcing servers to no longer be ranked when Punkbuster is disabled? There will be the crowd which say Punkbuster is useless and how all these innocent players were banned but without it every single cheat created since 2011 can be used on the servers that have PB disabled causing contempt for Battlefield in general. Would love to see EA's new anti-cheat back ported to more older BF titles like how Battlefield 1 was updated last year.

If this continues then BF3 will just die out even faster because of selfish players who do not value other peoples time nor respect simple basic rules of gameplay.

  • Hello south0fheaven,

Battlefield 3 ended its development cycle a long time ago, and no new updates will be coming to the game.

As a fellow player who has been playing Battlefield 3 since 2012 and still enjoys it, I can tell you that the new servers will eventually fade, while the well established ones will remain active. Nothing much more can be said or done.

This is not a matter of updating BF3 in 2025 simply the rules that the RSP server host providers are supposed to uphold set by EA/DICE are not being followed allowing Punkbuster to be disabled and the server still being Ranked. Also is not helping that the game was on sale for $0.99 recently having servers with Punkbuster openly disabled in their description simply invites cheaters to come do whatever they want, if they do happen to get banned they don't care since they bought 20 accounts for $20.

Should also be known that the server hosts who are advertising that their servers have no anti-cheat are collecting donations towards the cost of server rental so of course there are those who are paying to get away with whatever they want on these servers. So no, they will not be going anywhere and will cause the established servers to shut down until all that is left is one big giant cheat fest. If BF3 has a year left until EA drops all support for the game be a real shame that it be shut down in such a state when they can force the server host to abide by rules set since 2011.

EA needs to show the Battlefield community some good faith if it expects the core audience to return upon BF6's release we are tired of the lack of action which has plagued our beloved games.
