Surround Sound - Xbox One - Direction Awareness?

I was playing on a Hardcore server last night where your environmental awareness is really put to the test! Especially in terms of audio and enemy movement. With surround sound is it possible to detect the direction of sneaky hostiles? I don't have a quad surround sound style system with back of the room speakers and was wondering if this kind of system really works with BF1? I was using my Xbox One stereo headset which kind of works to a certain degree, but was wondering if this can be improved upon? Sensible answers please! Kind regards - Outlaw2sHero
