I'll throw in a +1 to NoxTheNib here. Bombers are just too hardcore generally, but scavenging destroys from the smaller planes should be a bit easier.

If you play Operations on maps with a Zepplin, maybe try spawning on it and then hop out on top.. There's often a decent air battle going on around them, and it might be easier to get the hits in that you need.

And of course be sure to keep firing after the enemy bails, you might get lucky and get the destroy before it crashes.

I second the above notions. Watch out for planes that are already damaged. I happened to get one plane destroyed when I didn't even focus on it. I was playing Conquest on Emperor's Edge as Support with the Lewis gun - the huge magazine size really helped there, finished off a bomber with it.

Starting off with an AA is probably also a great option, then shooting it down with the rifle in the end.
