v1.6.19 Upgrade Help

I bought Battlefield 1942 a while ago on disk,  maybe 2 years, and love the game! But after reenacting the Invasion of Iwo Jima about 900 times, it got kind of old, I wanted something new... so I googled battlefield 1942 mods and it came up with something called Desert Combat... it's a long story, one that would mean absolutely nothing to EA, but it boils down to me needing to upgrade my Battlefield 1942 to v1.6.19. I went online and downloaded the v1.6.19 patch onto my computer... but stopped there because I didn't know where to install it or put the files... can any one help me?
