War Tapes sound setting. Please explain it.

So I have a high end gaming headset. So what is this War Tapes sound setting? I heard it makes the sound exactly the way it is supposed to be in real life, but it can be a bit too much. Is any of this true? Is War Tapes the best setting to use if you want accurate real life sound?

For me, War Tapes is even less realistic than other settings.
The player's own weapon sounds very faint and distant, while the radio comms are way too loud. It also sounds a bit 'skippy' like there's a glitch with the ambient noise - which is also too loud.
The ambient noise is louder than your own gunshots.
