I don't think I have ever seen them remove the weekly gamemode and replace it with nothing. I mean, they had to update the game in order to do that. And now are looking at 3 weeks without any update, I'm starting to fear this might mean the weekly gamemode has simply been cancelled and won't ever make a return.
Which I hope is not the case, as on console this is often the only way to get to play otherwise long forgotten game modes and maps.

It is possible that it is not the BF1 exchange guy, but his/her boss (Straatford87) who is on summer vacation.
Straatford (Straatford87) is the Global Community Manager for Battlefield.
Two years ago, he updated the weekly scrap exchange after Jaqub Ajmal (ex-Dice producer).
