What did you do this past weekend?

I have been playing BF4 since alpha, and while I've had my fair share of issues, I had recently forced myself to get used to the horrid new gun and movement mechanics and was generally able to get a few good rounds in whenever I got the urge to play.  This was true up to last Thursday / Friday.

Fast forward to Sunday, when I got home from work, and a strange occurance seems to have happened.  NOTHING has changed, not my system specs, not my options or graphical tweaks which give me average of 80-90 frames-per-second on high / ultra settings, my ISP is the exact same as it has always been giving me a stable 30-50 ping to the servers I play, and there have been no new drivers released, downloaded, or suggested over the span of the 2 days I didn't play.

However EVERY SINGLE SERVER I join, whether it be east-coast, west-coast, South America, ANY of them all show a good, solid ping of under 70, yet my gameplay acts as though I or every enemy player has a ping of over 300.  I literally, and I do MEAN literally get zero hitreg when I shoot at enemies.  Sometimes I might be fine for a few minutes, sometimes I might even get through most of a round with no issues ( has happened twice ), but without FAIL the next round will be horrendous.  This is no aiming problem, I've played enough to know how to handle my weapons, and I line up and fire with my guns on enemies both stationary and mobile and get NOTHING unless I spray within arm's reach or come up on them from behind.  Similarly, when I'm killed, it's nearly always after I have ducked behind cover, sometimes as much as 4 seconds AFTER I leave the shooter's field of view, I will suddenly and with no warning die to a gunshot that I never saw or heard and came seconds prior.   I know the coveted 'netcode', I've had that problem before, and this is nothing like it.  This is something entirely new and absolutely game-breaking.

Thankfully, I am not the only person reporting this issue, and several people are pointing to the latest server patch as the culprit.  I wouldn't know, I don't rent my own server, but I DO know that for whatever reason over the weekend BF4 became unplayable to me and several others, and nobody seems to want to explain WHY.

PLEASE don't give me the generic responses.  I have double-checked my drivers, there is nothing running in the background, my firewall and router are FINE.   What in the name of sweet, sweet Zeus did you guys do, and when can we expect it to be fixed?

  • Oh irony, that the battlelog mods point us here for what they consider a technical issue.  Of course they would, it's far cheaper and easier to let the players fix their **bleep** rather than EA hold itself accountable.

But whatever.  I'm done with this headache.

  • I and a couple of friends played yesterday without any problems. Also the forums aren't being flooded with threads about this issue so I'll think it's safe to say that's it's not a general server upgrade gone wrong as it would then affect everybody. Besides the last server patch was Dec. 15.

What I think it could be:

    • Your ISP having trouble with the traffic between you and the servers.
    • A program or other users using your internet connection to a degree that is causing the issues
    • Some program on your computer have updated itself or similar and is causing the issues
    • You have been unlucky and the servers you have been playing on could use a restart / less people with high pings.
    • A local American EA backend network problem
    • A million other things

Now you don't seem interested in trying to fix the problem from your end so I wont try, but since that's what this forum is ment to do, to allow gamers to help other gamers, there's not much we can help you with in here. It's not a general forum where you can ask the developers about when issues will be fixed, for that there's the Battlelog forums.

  • Hey,

Please start a BF4 round and screenshot it with task manager open and showing usage. Then post it here.
