why is bf1 running so badly

Why is bf1 running so badly when im well over the minimum requirements. I have a zotac gtx 1070 with a amd 7890k and 16 gb of ddr3 ram. I'm getting a high of 40 fps even on all low 720p. Any answers?

  • @God_Joined420  Your CPU is the bottleneck there. And no, that one isn't supported. In many respects is worse than an FX6350

    You can see a supported list of CPU here. So, yes you are in for an upgrade. The A10-7890K is intended for casual gaming, working fine with games that are not heavy on the hardware. But if you are looking for serious gaming, a Ryzen 1700 should cover your needs (i gather that money are an issue, so a cheaper CPU is something to be desired). That means a new motherboard and the new DDR4. Alternatively, you can look into the motherboard booklet and see what CPU's from AMD your motherboard supports and which may work with Battlefield 1. If there is one, it probably available only as a second hand sale, but it's still better than investing 3-500 USD/euro into buying a new CPU/mobo/RAM combo.

    While seeming on par with the Intel CPU, AMD is using a different frequency measurement and are, generally speaking, under their Intel counterparts in terms of performance. The new Ryzen may change that, though. If you look into tests, your CPU is below an intel i7 from the 3xxx series (and that series isn't supported by BF1 either, the lowest being a 4970K, which is a CPU from the 4xxx series)

    @God_Joined420  it's an improvement, but not with much. Only a temporary solution. That's a five years old CPU, so might serve you for another year at best, but don't expect high performance from it in the more recent games (2016+). It also needs an after-market cooler (a good one), as the FX series are known for their high temperatures.

    If it's really, really cheap (like 30-50$), you should go for it, until you can gather the money for a more serious upgrade. As you have to invest in a good cooler, any price that goes after 60$ is too much (you can find a second hand FX 8320 for 35 - 60 USD, anything higher, you are better off buying it new and the price for a new one is about double, but at least it has a stock cooler)

    If you intend to remain on an AMD platform, you should go with a Ryzen 7 1700. It has rave reviews and offer really nice performance for the asking price (around 300$, but you can get it for less in sales). That is a CPU that should serve you well for the next 3-5 years.

    If you intend to move to Intel, i5 8400 or i5 8600 are good investments (best performance/price ratio)

    The Intel i7 8700k costs around 380 USD, it also makes a good choice. If at some point you decide to go for a full "upgrade" and need help with buying a new computer or components, feel free to tag me and i can help with the selection process.

    @God_Joined420

    Motherboard  - US price seems to be 169USD (amazon, newegg)

    CPU - Amazon has a really nice bundle consisting in CPU, RAM and cooler (the CPU's after the intel fourth generation don't include a stock cooler in the box, anymore).

    RAM - Corsair are still standing tall and the pricing is decent compared with the competition (Mushkin and such)

    Cooler

    The Hyper Evo 212A from Cooler Master is well known for being one of the more decent coolers from the market at a low price. If you have a full tower case with enough space, you can go for a Noctua

    Thing is that buying a Noctua will surpass the budget. On the other hand, in the right setup (big full tower case, with lots of space, so the case's width is the one that counts the most), that pup is probably the best cooler that you can buy.  I own one, put on an i7 7700K and my case is an Aerocool XPredator 2 , something that was unavailable on the US market until recently

    I can probably put a cheaper mobo, but just look at all the features that the Gigabyte offers for that money. Something similar from Asus will surpass 250USD

    Buying from Amazon, will ensure free delivery, as they have something like that for orders from US that surpass 200USD. Not sure what is Newegg's policy, though i can imagine that is similar. Most online stores offer free delivery if the order surpasses a certain amount of money.
