Xbox One + Battlefield 4 + SmartGlass

I was pumped to see BF4 has a SmartGlass Companion app. I whipped open my Surface 2 (a Windows 8.1 RT tablet) and opened SmartGlass. Much to my dismay, I was greeted with this:

What gives? Is the Surface 2 not a tablet? Will support for this device be introduced?

If the Battlefiled Smartglass Companion doesn't work with the MICROSOFT Surface Pro than this is a massive epic fail.

You'd think it'd work with the Pro (and I certainly hope that's the case) but I'm working with the RT version.
  • yeah, pretty lame, i also tried. Between all the crashing of the game and the other issues, this is really a piss poor product. its s shame really. if it wasnt for all the poor QA, this would be a truely incredible product.

  • I have a Samsung Ativ Tab 3 and the same issue. Seems Windows 8/8.1 tablets aren't recognised as tablets.

It's only a map anyway, why can't it work on laptops/PC's aswell?

Android and iOS devices only. I believe there's a version of the PC game available for Windows tablets or a Commander app for the PC version.

But when I enter "Battlelog" on my Xbox, in the lower right hand corner of the screen, there's clearly a Surface tablet (or at least a Windows 8 tablet, as it shows the Windows logo) with the mini-map showing. It even says:

"Experience Battlescreen. Get the upper hand on the battlefield by using Smartglass as an extended mini map while playing."

I understand this isn't a huge deal in the end, but why advertise it if it's not available? I feel left out. Smartglass works on Android, IOs, and Windows, why shouldn't this work?

I settled on a Surface Pro 2 since I wanted the adaptability of a full computer. Sure enough, the Battlefield 4 SmartGlass Companion doesn't work on Surface Pro either. I get the same message -- that it is only available on tablets! I thought for sure it would work on Surface RT in that case, but seeing as that's what you've posted about, I'm supposing it only works for iOS and Android. How annoying!

EA are you working on this?

I'm so pissed about it too!

On the gamecase it says "Xbox SmartGlass™" and not "Xbox SmartGlass™ Ándroid Only", that's a really bad joke.
