I had to clarify myself a bit more: Planes without specs are trash, and when you are able to upgrade them, like getting the rockets, you can finally do some real damage.
But between this part it can be really frustrating.
Further I still think the balance is fine. Perhaps spotting by the team can be some help detecting all AA's. But when I have Nitro I survive 98% from AA.
