Abnormally low FPS in BFV

Hello guys,

I played BFV beta back in summer on my laptop and the game used to work completely fine on High settings with 1080p, as the BF1 did. I saw a statement from the developers that if you are capable of running BF1 smoothly, you should be capable of running BFV.

Yesterday I started my 10-hour trial of BFV that came together with Origin Access - wanted to make sure the game is fine before I buy.

However, I am completely unable to get more than 10-15 fps ingame. I have 15 fps in menu, 10 fps in a singleplayer game, 5 fps in a multiplayer game. No matter what changes I do in the graphics options (DX11, DX12, low, medium, high, vsync on/off), it's still practically the same. It just feels like the game is not using the full power of the PC at all, or that it calculates some weird stuff in in behind.

I have Windows 10 Home, Core i7 7700HQ, 16 GB RAM, GeForce 1050Ti Acer Nitro 5 laptop. Clean installation of 417.22 driers. Origin & GeForce Experience overlay turned off.

I know that this is rather a middle-class PC, but still, I should be able to actually play the game (as I was able to play the beta), right? I tried BF1 yesterday to check, and it was a totally smooth 100 fps experience - so it's not a burn card or something like that.

I triple-checked the Nvidia Control Pannel and both bfv.exe and bftrial.exe are using the Nvidia graphics instead of an onboard Intel Graphics (which I first thought was the problem). I also checked the task manager to see that the game actually uses Nvidia card (the drain tops to 99 %), about 40 % of the CPU power and 5 GB of RAM.

Please throw your shots. I'm not buying until this gets resolved...

  • Hey @DodanekCZE, I'm sorry you've been through this. In short, let's repeat our simple adjustments, shall we?

    - repair the game within Origin

    - clear Origin cache (https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/)

    - You can delete the settings files from my documents if you wish. "Documents\Battlefield V\settings" or "Documents\Battlefield V\" (make sure the cloud save is turned on, Or the progression of a single game can be erased)

    - Keep Windows 10 up to date

If it didn't work the way you did it, I suggest a clean installation of Battlefield V (Cache cleaning).
It happened to my friend, and I'm going to contact him and get some information on how he solved the problem. (I'll be back.)

Hi @JadzyInPlay, thank you for your swift response. I did everyting you suggested (apart from complete reinstallation of BFV, as I did a clean installation just before this morning), and unfortunately nothing worked. The only thing that actually changed is that after installing the Windows Update 1809 the game won't launch anymore - it appears in the Task Manager for 10 seconds and than quits immediately without any error.

@EA_Barry this has been an unfortunate and frustrating experience so far, I've spent half a day trying to resolve the issue now ☹️

So, I searched some logs on Origin ProgramData folder to look into the crashing issue.

The game always creates a txt with following text:

    Process Information
    PID: 5484
    EXE: D:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield V\bfvTrial.exe
    STARTED: út, pro 04 2018 12:37:34 odp.
    INFO 12:37:34 odp. (0) 1396 DllMain.cpp: 2317 Info Display: disabled

    INFO 12:37:34 odp. (0) 1396 DllMain.cpp: 2409 IGO enabled 1 IGO API enabled: 1

It always creates a html document called "bfvTrial_196216_oa_OnlineActivation_Log.html" in which following lines go over and over again (only the time number is always different):

    1[20:47:56 GMT]InfoCore::CoreLoggerOpenV5.02.00.58 - Log C:\ProgramData\Origin\Logs\bfvTrial_196216_oa_OnlineActivation_Log Opened 12/3/2018 - [20:47:56 GMT]

Sorry for spamming, this will be a last post 🙂

There's actually a 6th line in the html document saying "TK Initialization error". Any suggestions?

  • Hello @JadzyInPlay@EA_Barry,

just to let you know, I successfully managed to resolve the entire issue last night. It turned out that it was actually caused by Nvidia 417.22 driver (released on 3/12) which cause players with laptops using Optimus technology (mostly Core i7 with 1050, 1060, 1070 cards) massive FPS drops in almost every game. The issue is thoroughly described here:

Downgrading to Nvidia driver 417.01 resolved everything. I am able to launch the game and play flawlessly.

Thank you both for your support!
