recently battlefield 5 keeps minimizing to the desktop every time I go to play it. it will play for a minute or so then minimize and keeps doing the same thing over again. I've tried turning o origin overlay and still no fix. any ideas?
I turned off " virtual super resolution " in radeon settings and it went away.

Do you have any background programs running that could be doing this ?

I have the same problem.. sometimes crashing all the time, sometimes minimaze... Impossible to play. Its not programs fault if this happening only on BF5.

I'm also having this issue since the latest game update. I've spent hours, formatting, using basic drivers, no OC software etc. Still, the game will crash within seconds.
I'll get a screen flicker (mostly noticeable aiming down gun scopes) then a CTD.
The ONLY way I can play the game is with G-sync off, V-sync on. No flickers or crashes after that. The game also plays fine above 60hz as long as I have video settings in game set to "monitor refresh rate." (144hz for my monitor)
So if any of you are running with g-sync, switch it off and report back with your results. This needs fixed ASAP.

If problem persists, get back to us with a DxDiag log of your system. The log does not always show the problem but it can help rule out other possible issues.
(To access DxDiag: Press WinKey + R and type dxdiag and hit enter - save all info as a .txt file)

As per the 12/11/18 update all of my crash issues seem to have been fixed. I've played 4 rounds with no stuttering or flickering. All settings have been put back to default, including G-sync enabled. 🙂
Latest update screwed up CTD again!!
I posted further back in this thread about my same issues and a fix. I had to enable v-sync and disable g-sync. Lock the fps at 60 fps. game runs with no crashes.
Then comes the 12-12-18 update and that patch was what I needed to be able to go back to all of my original settings. g-sync on, in-game refresh set 144mhz (same as monitor) and everything was fine again..... until the latest 12-13-18 patch.
I'm back to square one. CTD is back and can't go above 60 fps in game without a 2 min in game crash.

I guess I am just a lucky one, but I don't use G-Sync or V-Sync but I do have a 144hz monitor and I set in-game video settings to match that the "Low Latency" setting as well.
To state the obvious, have you tried to repair the game in Origin again? Cleared cache etc.
What GPU are your using?
I have not tried any origin repairs or cache clearing since last update.
Whatever dice did to fix the last crashes: examples,
Fixed a crash that could occur when viewing the Tides of War menu.
Fixed a crash that could occur when playing the Nordlys War Story.
Fixed broken audio during when watching the tutorial videos. etc
All Seem to be back or the ball got dropped re-implementing them.
The game played flawlessly on December 12th.
I played 3-4 hours without a hitch.
After this latest update though, everything went south again.
Screen flickers in menus, and 30 seconds into game I'm CTD like before.
I'll try your repair and cache suggestion. if that works, I'm grateful. If not I'll lock everything back down to 60 fps for now.
My GPU is the EVGA 1070 FTW
It plays BF1 on high perfectly
also Campaign BFV
The 60 fps lock is not needed to play the campaign. . Just multiplayer.
G-sync, V-sync 144hz all well until I go multiplayer.

I've had this over last 2 days, I don't have any overlays either, also sometimes when it minimises the game will just close, very annoying
