BFV crashing to desktop constantly - tried every fix

Crashes to desktop constantly, tried everything I have found on the internet and wiped my pc. after wiping I was able to play for some time and even finish the campaign and some time on multiplayer but now back to crashing every few minutes. No error message just a crash to desktop, and nothing is appearing in event viewer. A very small amount of times I am actually able to play for over 10 mins. I have no performance issues in the game, can play on high/ultra easily however it crashes the same frequency as on minimal settings, and with fps locked at 60.

The game screen will freeze, and sounds such as bullets/steps will stop however ambient noise will continue for a few seconds then a crash to desktop.

Ryzen 5 1600x, 1060 6Gb, 16Gb of ram, 512GB SSD.

Any help appreciated, thanks

  • It can be either a hardware issue (instable RAM, PSU, GPU, motherboard...) or a software issue.

Is your system stable running other games?

  • @lewi_the_guy What is your case size? how many fans(and where, front, back, top) and what kind of cpu cooler do you have?
If it is only closing to desktop with no errors, that generally tells me something is having an heat issue
  • thanks for the response,

my case size is large, its an Corsair 400C.

I have 3 fans including one on the cpu cooler.

been adjusting fans and my software shows no temp spikes.

  • I run pretty much every other game fine, ive never had problems anywhere near this severe with other games. The only other game where I get any crashing is CS:GO which is beyond me with it being such a low spec requirement :/

What software do you use to see temps?

    What's your monitor size/hz?

How long has your cpu been in computer? when was the last time you ever checked your thermal paste

In event viewer, in application, go to find and type RADAR , if anything comes up relatively near time wise to your crash(30-1hour) this is evident of faulting driver/memory leak occuring,or heat/glitch

If csgo is crashing, it runs mostly on your cpu side, and using the first couple cores more than anything else(csgo is 32bit)

If you are semi savy with this, have you tried re seating your ram, and produce the same crash?

Does your ssd have 50gb free of space minimally?

Does running battlefield in admin compatibility mode help extend gametime before crashing?(if yes I can help there further)

When is the last time you have cleaned up your registries ? and last time you have ever checked Operating system integrity

The reason I asked for case/etc first was because you just listed the exact same problem I had for the longest time, sometimes I could play for a few matchs, than it slowly got worse and worse, and I would crash every 10-20 minutes, it turns out it was heat not getting out of my case fast enough causing my ssd to heat up too much(and possibly my motherboard)

Feel free to add me for quicker response/troubleshooting otherwise I will look here every day or so ! Gl!

(And for clarification,i could run every other game fine, just battlefield and assassins creed od was crashing to desktop)

It could potentially be a few different issues but I would try disabling DX12 first given it seems to be the root cause for a lot of BFV issues. Ive posted the below fix elsewhere so its worth a try. Otherwise try testing your RAM by isolating one stick at a time (if you have 2 or 4). Other than that, try rolling back GPU drivers...

Do as follows and hopefully that will sort the issue:

You have to look for the file "PROFSAVE_profile" in the folder that the game creates in the user's documents in Windows.

Open it with a text editor (notepad works).

Change the value "1" to "0" and then Directx12 is deactivated and the game starts.

Thanks to users @mattei_708 and @Teniente1987 for passing the info on in older posts.
