Glide bomb....Bug or part of design?

Since the release of Pacific, I've been using the glide bomb that's unlockable on the American Corsair. After a few games I started becoming quite accurate with the bomb however I have noticed something which I'm not sure is simply a bug or a part of the overall design and that is the bomb bounce.

Now as I said I have spent quite some time using this bomb and have come in for attack on various angles, speeds, altitudes, etc and one thing remains consistent and that is the unpredictability of the glide bomb bounce. There have been times I have hit the top of Mount Suribachi only for the bomb to seemingly bounce and travel in a 90° angle away from where it initially hit and detonate midway down the slope. This makes it difficult to ensure a direct hit as you never know when it will simply glance something and send it flying off elsewhere.

I originally thought that this may have simply been an error on my screen, however team mates have told me from ground level they have in fact seen it bounce roughly 7 out of every 10 dropped and no matter of angle, height, speed, etc has been able to correct this. So is this simply a bug with the bomb or was it designed to 'bounce'?

  • If it's in BFV, it's probably a feature... not bug.

J/K most likely it's an error where the bomb can ricochet off armored surfaces.

  • I haven't noticed anything like that, but this does lead to something else....

US developed guided glide bombs, two of which, the “pelican” and it’s successor “bat” look the closest to what’s in the game. The Pelican used semi-active radar homing, and the Bat used active radar homing. They were particularly successful in anti-ship warfare. While the PB4Y Privateer was the most common delivery aircraft, the Corsair, Helldiver, and Avenger were also used. I am wondering if they will be adding the guidance to the game later, or if they nixed it in the name of balancing. http://https//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASM-N-2_Bat

  • Yeah, honestly I have never experienced it either. A direct hit does 81 damage and you hit the ground next to tank is about 41. Never saw it bounce.
