Hachi Isn't An Actual Tank Name.

Product: Battlefield V

Hi, As A Japanese Tank Enthousiast I'm Kind Of Dissapointed Of The Naming Of The Chi-Ha With Rockets. Ofcourse It's Just A Game And Not Everything Has To Be 100% Historical. But Aside This Squad Reinforcement, All Tanks & Vehicles Are Potrayed As Accurate As They Can Be (Only The Chi-Ha With 37mm Hull Mounted + A Working Turret Didn't, But That's An Other Topic).

As Accurate As The Rocket Pods Are On The "Hachi" They're Modeled Correctly After The Chi-Ha GS, A Special Engineering Vehicle That Has Bangalore Launchers Attached On Top Of The Engine, And Not On The Turret:

It'd Be Amazing If The "Hachi" Got Renamed To A More Accurate Name (Chi-Ha GS). And Even Greater If The Bangalore Launchers Were Put On The Back, But From A Gameplay Perspective I Fully Respect It Being On The Turret.

Additional Information About The Turret, This Is A Chi-Ha Kai Turret With The Gun Being The Bangalore Launcher. The Rocket Pods Are Still In Fact Rockets, But The "Cannon" Is Actually A Land Torpedo Launcher.

Good find and good explanation. If you google on Hachi almost nothing comes up too. On Chi-Ha pages full, so this is more likely the correct name. But where does the current name come from, might it have been a 'slang' word for the tank by eitherr US or JP troops?

Hachi Simply Doesn't Exist, Neither As A Japanese Nor American Slang.

Long Story Short, Japanese Tank Names Exist Out Of 2 Parts, Role, And Number. Chi = Medium Tank, Ha = 3rd Built Of A Medium Tank In This Case.

The Combination Of Ha-Chi Simply Does Not Exist During WWII. There's Examples Of Tanks Starting With Ha (Type 95 Ha-Go - Old Name System) And Ha-To, An Experimental 30cm Rocket Artillery Vehicle.

Ha-Chi Might Sound Like A Plaussible Name For A Japanese Tanks, But Simply Is Incorrect, Non Existent. Other Than The Ha-To, There's No Other Tank Known To Start With Ha (With New Naming Scheme) Known To Today.

And Looking At The "Rocket" Launchers, It Clearly Is Modeled After The The Special Chi-Ha GS Variant.

And To Go Further On Your Slang Theory, This Vehicle Wasn't Made Alot / Used That Americans Nicknamed It.

Edit: Full Name: Type 97 "Mine Clearing Tank GS"
