Did all of the above (no success), reading my way through the threads, now I'm monitoring RAM usage and - after the current update has finished loading - will try again...
Thanks for your patience!
Update: RAM usage never went above 30%, game still crashed...

I have almost the exact system setup you are running.
Like you... I've spent countless hours and tried everything from a fresh windows install, no extra OC or software etc.The last thing I tried worked, but it's bitter sweet.
I'm assuming you have g-sync enabled in the nvidia control panel
The only way I can play without crashing to desktop, flickering, freezing up etc, is to DISABLE g-sync in control panel.
Everything is smooth as silk now.
My monitor is g-sync ready and 144hz refresh
I'm going to try enabling v-sync @ the "current monitor refresh rate" in game. I'll post back with the results.
If I'm able to go up to 100+ FPS with v-stnc on then it's definitely a g-sync nvidia issue. (Post Tides of war update.).

@Str0ke9 good suggestion, thanks for sharing. Will waiting when @Stingray_DE check this out...
But I think his monitor support "AMD FreeSync" not g-sync (info).
Also my another suggestion is install latest Windows version - 1809, Redstone 5, October 2018 Update, Last Build 17763...

No, (un-) fortunately the display doesn't support g-sync, so no joy there...
Still, a good and helpful idea. Thanks.

1809 is not delivered anymore, as far as I know, due to problems with the patch on many systems
