I finally progressed and I think I figured out the problem, when using one of the “new assault weapons” ie Ag/m 42 or the ribeyrolles 1918 it wouldn’t track progress. When I switched back to the SMLE it tracked as expected. Not sure if it was a new weapon issue or not, but I made it past.

Hi, I've got the same issue on PS4. It doesn't track at all
problem remaining for me on PC

@WlkrTex4sR4ngeractually did post the solution for me: I am normally using the SMLE not making progress in the assigment. Rereading his post I decided to used the Sturmgewehr 1-5 instead of the Turner SMLE - and Bam! I was able to get the 5-thousand damage points in no time. So if an Assigment does not work, it might be worth to change the weapon you are using.
- @II__SUSHI__II didn't work for me. i've just went on upgrading my sturmgewehr 1-5 (the rank 20 assault wep) and it didn't bump up the damage counter at all. getting the feeling that it's only tracking my sidearm damage since i did some form of damage with it once in a while
Man! wouldn't it be nice to have an reproducable/easy to fix/workaround issue for a change! Sorry to hear you do not get it working. My best guess is you should try some of the other assault weapons and see if any of these do the trick.
