Re: Battlefield V Tips, Part I: Strategy

Honestly, there isn't much reason to drop ammo crates and medic crates are especially pointless (and actually a hinderance).

Ammo crates only resupply one special ammo while the supply stations resupply you to max and there are in large abundance on the map.

Medic pouches not only heal but resupply your fill of extra bandages, plus they can be thrown in multiple bursts making them much more effective. They should have made crates be the only thing (besides medic stations) to resupply your bandages to make them viable on the battlefield.

I'm normally against camping but I have to disagree when it comes to V's CQ mode - Defending objectives is more important than it ever was and I've seen multiple teams win with less flag caps since they were able to effectively mow down the other team. Bipods are your friend.

Also, fog isn't a thick blanket like it used to be in 1 so I don't think it really applies

Console players are unable to chat positions to teammates and must use the new spotting mechanic more effectively. You can't mark things too far away and a regular grey marker could have multiple meanings

Enemy fortifications can work in your favour and I wouldn't recommend destroying every single one. Breach a small hole, not a large one, to remain unnoticed

@TTZ_Dipsy Yes, crates aren't really good in the meta but if you must use it (e.g. assignments), it should be dropped frequently. I wish teammates wouldn't play with certain guns, too lol... And I agree with the pouches, they're my go to for my loadout.

The fortifications that shouldn't be put up are all situational, and I've only highlighted one scenario. And yes, these tips are mostly tailored towards PC users, and if I do make a Settings tips, then it'll only be for PC users (sorry console players!).

I updated how the reinforcement ticket count works. The "Cost of Admission" style of ticket reduction is the exception, not the rule. Most game modes have it as a ticket loss upon permanent death, so strategize accordingly.

+ Reinforcement Count - As a rule, your reinforcement (ticket) count decreases upon permanent death when you're no longer able to be revived. This is the case for mode game modes with the exception of some modes such as Squad Conquest, in which you lose tickets upon spawning in (what I call a "Cost of Admission"). That means that if you were to play Squad Conquest and you have only 1 ticket left, then no one on your team should spawn in, especially if the game is neck and neck. Since you can't control what your teammates do, you'll have to communicate this to everyone. No matter how the ticket system works, you should do your best to wait for revives. I'll update the list of game mode exceptions, or what game modes have deaths count as a Cost of Admission, when I notice them.

Since this last patch, ticket bleed is now on permanent death for all game modes, including squad conquest. The main post has been updated accordingly.

I've created a mnemonic to help people remember that "you win by capping, not by camping": ABC - Always Be Capping.

Glengarry Glen Ross fans may appreciate that 😉

Yes, but not during a firefight. I'd put the crate down and move around for people to pick up ammo. That said, I prefer the ammo pouch over the box.

I prefer the ammo box over the ammo pouch, thanks to gaining ammo for gadgets and people seem to use my ammo box al the time for that sweet gadget ammo.

  • @EA_Atic @scagmo_ps4 With a box you do get multiple avenues of ammo delivery, but ammo pouches allow you to resupply yourself and others quickly. Otherwise, the box would have to be dropped then ammo picked up, which adds time to the self resupply. The box certainly got improved, and the added benefit of resupplying your gadget is nice, but for many players, it's not quick enough esp. in the thick of things.

OK apparently crates have aura effects now... and the mere act of switching from say, your primary weapon to the ammo box auto replenishes your ammo. I think this is a bug, but maybe it actually isn't... I don't even have to drop the ammo crate and interact with it. I merely press 3 to switch to the ammo box and I replenish my ammo, just like I replenish ammo when I press 3 with an ammo pouch.

That means that the crates are a better choice, given all of the other benefits...

These changes are working as intended. In theory, they are way better (at least for Supports), but you are still relatively stationary and unprotected when doing the "long heal/resupply" (just holding the crate in your hands).

I still prefer pouches for the medic since you can insta heal and continue shooting, all while whipping packs across the map for tactical heals.

@TTZ_Dipsy Yeah I did realize that the crates are slightly slower than the pouches, so in the middle of combat it may be a little too slow.

While i mostly use pouches, medic packs and ammo packs left in the right place can be hugely helpful.

Firstly because they dont rely on you being alive to work. If you are going into a grinder, leaving med packs or ammo packs just outside or at entry to a grinding area can help other team mates suppress and counterthe enemy, especialky as now even being in  proximity activates healing or reload.

The second reason is they dont require you to be near the action directly especially as a support player carrying an mmg or a medic with a bolt action rifle- admitantly both defensive plays but sometimes required especially in games like breakthrough or frontlines.

  • Don't move towards objectives that are being capped sufficiently or have tons of your teammates already going after it - you're contributing very little to the objective. Instead, move towards the farther objectives to flank the enemy and force them to turn around and decongest the front lines. Additionally, pull up the map, see what's not being capped, and go there; bind the full map key to something more ergonomic like Mouse Button 3. Also see You win by capping, not by camping below.
