Re: In-game Chat Filter Feedback.

Half the time I try to write something in chat (I'm not talking about insults), my text gets censored. I think this is the worst chat filtering solution I've seen in my life, it's EXTREMELY aggressive.

Yesterday alone I was censored when typing "haven't" (yep, that's right) and "kill that plane".

Apparently "killing" is a very naughty expression to use in a game about WW2 where you literally run around and shoot people.

You guys really need to tone this thing down, I'd rather have a few false negatives than the current avalanche of false positives.

Even better, let us disable the filtering client-side. You know, some of us are grown ups and not as easily triggered as certain folks.

EDIT: another pointlessly censored word... "bomber". Yep. I was trying to reference bomber planes.

Hello! So as title says, I can't chat in BFV. I can open chat and type but my message doesn't go through. What I suspect is happening is that somehow my name is censured. Can you look into this! Thanks.

Hi @Mitra420 It most likely is name-related, and if your name in-game is the same as it is here then the '420' bit is probably the cause.

@ElliotLH I've heard that this chat censor is incorporated across all games not just Battlefield V. Is this true?
  • @ElliotLH lol it's just a number... Regardless, is it possible to change name? In BF1 this didn't happen

@WebsterHelios I have no idea I'm afraid but I'd assume all EA games with chat will have some form of filtering.

@Mitra420 That may well be but it has a well known connotation (one we can't really discuss here btw) and I can't see it being allowed due to that. You can change your name through your EA account.

thanks for the info, still worked some months ago.

Seems like I will be a quite one from now on

  • @ElliotLH I can understand that, it's just weird than in a previous game it was all fine and now it's not ...

The chat filter in BFV is worse than it's ever been. I can't even type a normal sentence without random words or sometimes even the whole thing being censored. Yesterday I was trying to tell somebody about my sound card and earbuds. It censors the word ear and buds! It sensors the word "yeah" if I precedes other words.

This isn't a profanity filter. This is some wacky woke censorship that filters words even a preschooler wouldn't find offensive, such as poop. If I'm talking about my video card and I say GPUs, that gets censored.

This whole chat filter needs to be scrapped. The rate of false negatives is staggering.

  • Yep, I also got "Yeah" censored so often, it's really irritating and pointless. There should be an option for big boys to disable the filter, to hell with it

@JCap334I agree as this feature is the 2nd thing that annoys the hell out of me when I play the game. I'd rather deal with seeing slurs in chat than having a broken censor.

  • Just found out that I can chat in game in BF2042 but not in BFV anymore.

Great, I've had this nick for ages really don't want to change it.

    Come on EA!?

Just found out I can't type the word EAST in chat, even on its own.

I was trying to warn about the presence of a tank east of a flag.

I've been gaming for 27 years, I've never seen such a * chat filter.

Problably because the jævla filter banned the ''word'' EA...it truly reflects the people coding it...with their foreheads.

  • @EA the chat filter on BF V is absolutely rubbish. Turn it off. This is an ESRB 16 rated game and I'm not allowed to use chat *at all* because some part of my username matches an arbitrary word list? If people aren't adult enough to see the word "sniper" then they are not old enough to play the game. I've put nearly 400 hours into this game and spent a buttload on EA Play but if you carry on with such ridiculous policies I'm joining the rest of my friends and leaving EA for good.

In case it wasn't clear: these ridiculous policies are losing you revenue.

I've seen some progress with filter. A lot of common words have been uncensored. Good news.

@Geri_m3ster Change username unfortunately. Go to Origin app, click on Origin, click on EA account and billing and change username. I had the same this week after years using a username and even have been active with this username on this forum without comment. So now changed it , bit forced to do.
