While this is quite appealing to the hardcore players, i am not sure how it will fit with EA trying to reach as many gamers as they can.
Other games already tried it (the original Operation: Flashpoint/ArmA: Cold War), but the appeal for an actual simulation was rather low. Personally i've enjoyed those games, but i can see how people wouldn't be too thrilled with a harder online experience. Most people would like a quick in/quick out match, without too much fuss added.
How i would see this idea: a hardcore mode for the people that want more realism with dedicated servers for that mode. That way you keep happy all the sides.
