Encountered a similar glancing blow issue today, engaged a Churchill about 5-10m away and squarely facing its front, fired off two mortar rounds hitting the turret and front armor (both tanks at same elevation) which resulted in glancing blows (1 dmg). Due to the close range situation and taking fire from the Churchill I couldn't see where the rounds glanced/slided off to, it could've just disappeared on impact.
Does the mortar round have a minimum arming distance?
