Maybe they will say, but usually, publishers won't comment on upgrades pre-launch because they want to present consumers a simple choice between standard and deluxe. There's an implied pressure to make a choice about having the 'extras', that would be lessened if an upgrade was available.
So let's see what happened with Battlefield 1 which launched October 21st, 2016.
Up until October 16th, 2016, EA support were saying 'we don't know', 'wait and see'. On October 18th, 2016 an upgrade pack was launched for $20 (on console) but I don't see it on Origin.
That's not a guarantee the same will happen with Battlefield V, but it seems probable (depending on platform).
So, conclusions:
- The upgrade is likely to happen, just not guaranteed.
- You can cancel/refund pre-orders and buy the other one (support can help).
- But EA Play is 2 weeks away, you really can't wait until then to decide? That would be much easier.
But if someone gifts you the standard version, you're stuck with either standard or having to pay for full price for Deluxe edition, right?
That doesn't sound right, and I hope that EA addresses this sooner rather than later.

Eventually there should be an Upgrade available to the Deluxe Edition, maybe post launch.
I would wait and see if there's more information about it later on.
- 8 years agoJust ask them kindly to cancel the pre-order and simply give them $10 more and let them gift you the Deluxe Edition.
Usually, EA doesn't offer upgrade options before the game launches.
