Why are there so few community servers?

Hey everyone. I just downloaded BFV for the first time and I'm a bit stunned to see how few community servers there are. I am playing on PS4, but I've played BF3, BF4, BFH, and BF1.

Of course Battlefield 1 had no custom servers for some idiotic reason but I was excited to hear that they're in BFV. I only see about 3 custom servers.

Why don't more people use this feature? Also, why can we not favorite a server in this game? Seems pretty backwards considering its been in the franchise for years.

@DrVeloxcity I can't comment on the availability of Community servers on PS as I'm a PC player, but in regards to being able to favourite a server not being possible, it's because the community servers are not persistent, once the admin leaves and the server is empty, the server is shutdown completely.
  • I'm sure there is a huge amount of custom servers in the browser but either search settings aren't optimal, or the browser itself is acting up.

Battlefield 1 does have custom servers - They are the last of the "RSP" servers but recently have had troubles showing up in the browser when users manually search; they are there, but you might need to join on a friend to enter properly which is unfortunate.

BF1 and BFV do allow you to favourite a server - I can't remember the exact button you need to press but the option is definitely there.

As Carpo mentioned, BFV servers, while free, are not persistent so the entire server has the potential to shut down if there aren't enough players; this helps reduce clutter in the server browser but can be rather annoying for people who like to create weekly events and stuff.

  • @DrVeloxcity Well on the very first day the community games came out there were only a few servers running on PS4. Most of them had one or two players wandering about hoping for someone to join.

Basically it was a massive failure. By the time community games launched BFV was largely dead. No one cared about the feature and for those that did it offered a fraction of what they wanted.
