Xbox account now linked to someone else's EA account

Went to play Battlefied 5 and a message displays saying that my login credentials have expired.  A password reset has been sent to email but the email is not my account.  I tried EA help and they sai...

    It's difficult for us to understand the full picture of what's happening here on the forums as we can't really disclose personal account details in order to protect one's account. We can only advise to contact our Support team so they can help verify account ownership before they can make any changes to your account.

I tried support but because I do not have access to the ea account that is linked to my xbox account, they can't help me. Just going in circles at this point. Only options that I can see are to never play EA games on my 15 year old Xbox account or hope that whoevers email now runs my account decides to reset their password and make their account active again.
