  • solution by jijimou works for me, not exactly sure why though!

  • WOW, i bought this game today (17.2.2013) and it drove me crazy, never ever had this problem before in Origin. I just could not launch Dead Space 2, Activation wizard asked me for a code, i put it in, activation was successful but when i pressed "play" i was again in activation wizard and asked for the code, I ACTIVATED my game 20 times, yet could not play it, fuc....g amaterish. Nobody could help me but this JIJIMOU guy trick WORKED!!!

Nvidia 3D settings to max - NOW, WHAT THE HELL DOES 3D settings in common with DEAD SPACE 2?

Now, EA and ORIGIN, you screwed MAJOR on this one, please put this message about 3D NVIDIA settings as compulsory attachment to anybody who is buying this game - you will save your EA online help a lot of trouble and time

I have the exact same problem as kusarimatoyu90! I've bought a hard copy of Dead Space 2, and when asked to activate the product it says 'Invalid Key', but strangely I tried to activate it on Origin, and it did. Now I've got the game on my Origin Library, but still when the activation wizard appears, it says 'Invalid Key'. So I went back to the store who sold me the game, and they gave me another copy. But it says 'Invalid Key' again! This is driving me crazy, because I want to play the game, but I can't.

    P.S.: I didn't activate the 2nd copy on Origin.

I am also having this issue with my digital copy purchased from Amazon. I do not appear to have the preferred graphics processor setting in my nvidia control panel, so the most commonly suggested solution doesn't seem like it will work for me.

I wish that I had tried this first; I would have been playing Dead Space 2 three days ago. Mucho gracias.

The power management setting for NVIDIA users does NOT help all users with this problem.

I have successfully installed one Steam copy of the game on a desktop PC physically connected to my router. I have NOT been able to install a second, completely separate Steam copy to a laptop using wireless Internet. We receive the message of a successful activation, but then the launcher closes without moving on to create a new EA account.

Setting Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance within the NVIDIA Control Panel does nothing for us.

Renaming the executable Deadspace2.exe simply prevents the game from starting at all.

Running Deadspace2.exe in Compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 does not work, either.

Running Deadspace2.exe as an Administrator does not work, either. Launching Deadspace2.exe directly from the installation folder does not work, either.

It has been reported that disabling Windows Management Instrumentation via MSCONFIG or SERVICES.MSC allows the game to run. We have not attempted to do this yet, as it seems to be a terribly dangerous requirement for a silly video game.

It has also been reported that deleting the local Steam installation and instead installing via Origin (using the same key, of course) will work. But this requires installing yet another restrictive DRM ecosystem on the computer—unless, of course, the user has already done so. A game purchased through Steam should not require installation of the Origin software, especially when no such requirement is advertised.

Finally, I realized there was another graphics setting available on PCs with NVIDIA Optimus, something apart from the Program Settings\Power management mode I am accustomed to using on my desktop:

    • Right-click on the Desktop

    • Select NVIDIA Control Panel

    • Under 3D Settings, choose Manage 3D Settings

    • Click on the Global Settings tab

    • Under Preferred graphics processor:, choose High-performance NVIDIA processor

    • Click Apply; exit the NVIDIA Control Panel

    • Launch Deadspace 2; after a brief delay, the EA account menu should appear after the "Athentication succcessful" message.

One the game has been launched successfully, the user can restore the Auto-select default for Preferred graphics processor under the Global Settings tab without any ill effect.
