I wouldn't say ruins it, but takes out a very helpful part, but at least you can still beat it with out the bot.
I may have used the wrong word. By ruining it I meant it may alter your single player save file by producing the scavenger bot bug, not the ruining of the gameplay itself.
Although, in all fairness, Scavenger bots are a very important part of Dead Space 3, specially since they're the only ones that can collect Ration Seals for MKV mods.

OK I see what you mean I didn't think of the Ration Seals, it's important if you want to play a certain way but you can still paly with out them and you can find some later not sure where or how many.
