Crash upon approaching Crestwood cave - Here Lies the Abyss

Every time I near the Crestwood cave where Hawke's Warden friend is hiding, the game crashes to desktop without any error message displaying. I can go to every other area in the game without any crashes. I have not had this issue before even though I am using the same computer as I was earlier this year when I was completing my first playthrough. The only thing that has changed since then has been the patches and downloading Trespasser.

I have attempted numerous restarts, both of the game and the computer, lowering graphics quality to bare minimum, approaching on horseback, approaching with no companions, reinstalled the entire game and attempted the "repair game" option on Origin. Nothing has helped.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on how to fix it? Obviously I can't progress in the main story without it.
