I also experience this problem.
New install. Either start game from Steam or manually run the bin_ship/DAOrigins.exe, and the launcher loads. Click Play, it launches the configuration tool, reads "Please wait while the system information is collected" and then crashes.
Attaching dxdiag.
Also attaching 2 windows11 event viewer logs for the app crash.Looks like it has to do with reported CPU count.
I found a workaround posted on reddit. This allowed the config tool to run properly. https://www.reddit.com/r/DragonageOrigins/comments/otrgc0/dragon_age_origins_ultimate_edition_wont_boot/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
I found this fix :
- Download the latest Windows ADK for your specific Windows version : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-Us/windows-hardware/get-started/adk-install
During installation, it gives the option to select multiple tools; the only one needed is Compatibility Administrator.
- Once installed, open the Start Menu folder named Windows Kits, and launch Compatiblity Administrator (32-bit).
- Select the new database under custom databases.
- Click the database menu > Create New > Application Fix.
- Provide the full path of DAOriginsConfig.exe and give it a name of choosing.
- Skip past the compatibility mode options.
- In compatibility fixes select ProcessorCountLieForHybridCPU and ProcessorCountLie.
- Select Next and finish
- Press CTRL +S on your Keyboard or click on "Save"
- give it a name when prompted and try to save the database file in the same directory if possible
- Click on "run".Attaching screenshot of what this compatibility application should look like.
I have not tried this fix as yet.
Once I get home Sun/Mon I'll see what happens.
Someone requested a dxdiag:
And here is a speccy for good measure:
Sadly it does not appear to be working even with the CPU fixes.
Strangely it will run on my win 11 home (vs Pro on the desktop) laptop. Both have Ryzen 9 processors and amd gpu's.
Laptop is 1 gen older and has an 8/16 vs the desktop's 16/32
On a slightly divergent topic, I dont know how I ended up with "6418e6a199841592" as a username. I looked at preferences and dont see where to change it.

The problem with the config.exe is due to the high core count of modern PCs, the game itself should not be affected.
Is the config.exe running with the core fix?
Yes
First post seems to have disappeared. Hopefully not dup posting.

Please preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.
In clean boot:
- Make sure the "EABackgroundService" remains enabled under point 3 in the guide.
- Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
- Make sure any CORSAIR/Asus/Razor software is disable or deinstalled and that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
- Make sure only your Mouse and keyboard are connected to the PC Ok Past the config utility on to new error.
When launching the game the first time, I get music, no video and no icon on the taskbar or apparent new program running or available to switch to.
If I try to launch again I get blocked by program already running and have to reboot to clear that.

Is that happening in clean boot or at normal game start?
Repair the game.
(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.) - EA_Shepard1 year ago
