I wish the Inquisition was a Faction

Not even necessarily a faction Rook can join, but at least acknowledged as Harding's faction in the game, treated similar to the others. I understand it was more a Southern Thedas organization and new locations and specific missions are likely unrealistic additions, but it deserves to be recognized more in some way.

Some thoughts that would be easier to implement imo and make a bigger connection to DAI:

  1. Have it listed as a faction on the world map and an indicator or symbol over the general area of where Southern Thedas would be.
  2. The starting strength could be determined by whether or not the Inquisition was disbanded in the prior game, maybe weak if disbanded, medium if made a part of the Chantry.
  3. Harding's missions and the main story can increase the strength of the faction. We already get missives from the Inquisitor that the fight in the South is seeing the affects of what Rook and team are doing up North.
  4. We could get missives from the old advisors, Cassandra, Leliana, Cullen and Josephine. Giving updates and advice in leadership or even advice on how to deal with Solas. I believe all were alive at the end of DAI. Even if Cullen leaves active service the eplilogue states he would not hesitate to pick up his sword again if there was a need. The blight to end all blights is most certainly a need.
  5. Cassandra and Josephine could even send missives thanking Rook for the help they are providing to Nevarra and Antiva.
  6. Near end game, depending on strength Rook could get their own set of awesome legendary Inquisition armor.

Again, I don't even really think it needs to be a faction for Rook, that would require more voiced dialogue and lines, but it could definitely be a bigger part of the world of Thedas in DAV.

I wish that they had just... continued Inquisition or at least, the Inquisitor. There's certainly a case to be made for it - dissolving the Inquisition\dumping it on the Chantry would leave the Inquisitor free to head up to Tevinter, and I think if the developers had worked with a character they knew and liked, we would have gotten a better game. I'm convinced the developers don't like "Rook", and frankly, neither do I. I don't even understand the reference to the chess piece... Why the rook? The whole chess thing only works when it's in support of something else, like the king or more often in this type of fantasy lore, the queen. Why is our nickname "rook"?

They could have easily continued ala Mass Effect and I think the players would have loved them for it. I don't really care that the first two games didn't do it. Developers are allowed to change direction and in this case I really believe it would have saved the game. They wouldn't have had to do this whole "new antagonists" thing, it would have made the pursuit make MUCH more sense - why the hell isn't the Inquisitor (especially Lavellen) pursuing Solas? By this point he's the only real threat, yea? But, only Varric and Harding from the Inquisition are deployed to deal with it, the two NON-MAGE AND NON-TEMPLARS are out there looking for the most powerful MAGE they know? Two dwarves with bows are deployed to go make a new team on the fly up in Tevinter. Yea.

Just... The whole thing from top to bottom really should be scraped from the history books imho. I'm so beyond disappointed in what this game was that nothing short of the Second Coming of David Gaidar could get me to look at this franchise ever again.

Thanks for replying to all my posts! I am very sorry that you and many others are so disappointed with the game. Being a long time fan since the beginning, its never something you want to see. I honestly really liked it, but do agree with some of the major criticisms it has, especially the romance and lack of connection to the prior games. I think continuing as the Inquisitor would have been great, but I can understand the need for a new protagonist that is not as close to Solas, especially with the comments made at the end of DAI about him knowing all the Inquisitions moves and especially if you romance him. However, I did not feel as connected to Rook like I have with prior characters so I agree it seems the developers didn't really like them or at least did not understand who they wanted them to be. I do think there were many missed opportunities to make bigger connections with the prior game. Rook should have had a stronger and closer relationship with the Inquisitor. The missives system was also a missed opportunity imo that could have easily been expanded on without the need to voice and act out new scenes for additional cameos etc.

Heh, I didn't realize I was replying to all your posts, there is just so little discussion here that I check every day and since I'm very, very salty about what we received, I'm sort of just vomiting posts everywhere about stuff if it seems relevant to somebody else's thoughts.

Hopefully this will be out of my system in another couple weeks!
