EA App Offline access

Hello! Firstly, I work as a seafarer, and therefore I am away from internet access 10-12 weeks at a time.

Is there really no way to access the EA App for offline games, without connecting to the internet to access the app? I know you can supposedly go to offline mode, but if I have to be online to set my app to offline mode EVERYTIME I exit the app, or shut down my laptop, it kind of defeats the purpose.

I can see, that this issue is a very old one. But how is it now a days? Is it being looked into? It seems like every other launcher app has a working offline mode, so how come the EA app is working so poorly in this regard. I would like to have access to my games, that I have paid for, even without internet access.

Good luck with this . I really hope they will add it but they have been ignoring they're customers for years about this issue and will probably continue until people learn to hit them in they're wallet .

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, that was also what I gathered from looking at the forums. Most of the posts were several years old, though, so I had a desperate hope, that they might have adressed the issue.

  • Umm yesterday after months and months of not touching EA app I decided to try it, updated it and checked if proper offline mode has been implemented. I disabled my network adapter and then started EA app and to my amazement offline screen popped up displaying all my installed games that can be played in offline mode. So to me it seems like offline mode is finally implemented, or...? Unless it's some kind of stupid implementation like it's mandatory to go online every X days to refresh authentication etc.

That is indeed a very helpful post, even if it was due to some unexpected reason.

I usually stay logged in during any game (rarely do I coop or multiplayer) as it's just easier. That means leaving the app open in the background which as far as I can tell uses almost zero resources. After I quit, not logout. The background service stops after one minute as per my settings. Opening the app again is auto login, works very well.

Having said that, for many people that is far from ideal. Particularly the OP. A proper START in offline mode for at least single player games, or single player element of games with mixied coop, multi, single, I think is not a big ask.

Your post is encouraging. No announcement so, I don't know, quiet testing period. Because you totally disconnected your net connection? Regardless. Thanks for posting. 👍

So offline mode in latest EA app version isn't working for you? I'm just a normal user and not a beta tester or anything so I assumed everyone would have the same version? By disabling network adapter I fully disconnected my PC and had no internet connection before starting EA app and I was able to play my games in offline mode. So my EA app seem to have proper offline mode, not sure why it wouldn't work for everyone else too.

I haven't tried totally disconnecting before starting the EA APP yet. I don't mind being online even though I play single player pretty much 100%.

The exception is the latest Grid racing game.

It goes online for multiiplayer etc etc by default. But online profile and offline profile are seperate.

Automatically when that game starts, even after clicking go offline, it logs into Grid online! That profile contains none of my progress or anything. It was auto setup I assume, but same name.

So in order to play on my offline profile  I then have to quit and restart the game and click continue in offline mode (or similar wording). Then I can see my achievments and progress to date.

Not convenient as I have to start the game twice, and online profile is not updated or connected to the offline one. It's a totally different profile.

I would simply like to open the EA APP which logs me in, no problem there. But then, if I wish, click "go offline." Then start Grid offline.

Not possible, detailed above. I don't bother going offline for my other games. They are mostly single player only anyway.

So I have one question for you. You were very clear in explaining about disconneting your network adaptor. Thank you.

I'd rather not do that so wondering if you log into the EA APP, then click go offline, does it now in fact go offline and start games offline, without having to open them online first, quitting and restarting, as is the case with Grid?

I don't have many games in EA app but all of those seem to have shared online and offline profiles. I think it depends on the game because Space Engineers on Steam also has separate profiles for online and offline play. So if I want to continue my online game offline I have to copy save files from game's online profile folder to offline profile and vice versa.

But it seems that all games need to be started in online mode at least once before they work in offline mode when network is disconnected. I assume games require online authentication data stored for offline mode if they haven't been played online with the latest version of EA app.

  • I don't have internet at home. I live in the middle of nowhere and am not going to pay the ridiculous amounts needed to get spotty and slow internet access. The Offline mode is still broken. Last night I was playing a game just fine, today EA seems to think it requires a connection and won't let me open it. It's the most garbage nonsense ever. EA continues to punish people for buying things from it by making it difficult and frustrating to actually use anything. The worst part is I bought the games via Steam (how foolish I was), and Steam had zero problems opening games that don't require a connection without one, but EA needs all of its stuff to run through its broken app because once again they simply feel the need to punish their consumers.

Thanks. Yeah, I agree, it depends on the game. Grid legends is the only one out of 100s of Steam and EA games that does this.

Your last paragraph is spot on too.
