Pop-up in Origin about EA app which can't be closed

Hi everyone. I have been playing Sims 3 through Origin for many years now, but today am having issues. When I open Origin I get a message pop up which says "The EA app is your new home for PC gaming....

Hey @punkerlishus going forward you will need to use the EA app to play your EA games.

Please follow the steps to install the EA app to continue playing.

EA app breaks games like Crysis 3; this is not an acceptable option for paying customers. And the added disrespect by EA support giving the runaround and forcing me to keep reopening my case is pretty despicable behavior. This is not a F2P situation.
