why is the EA app so terrible?

I just don't understand why a multi million dollar company can't make an app that functions properly. I have to enter my computer password every time I open it, half the time I get stuck with some useless update and can't play the game at all. There is no way to avoid these updates as offline mode does not work. Why can't I play a game that I own, that does not need internet to function? The entire app seems designed to be nothing but a place to advertise their games, not to be user friendly.

I don't think that an app that can do the one thing it is supposed to is a big ask.
