Re: administrator privileges

@jfcsoft

Since Windows Vista no user mode App runs with Administrator privileges, even if it is started inside a Administrator account.

All apps run in user mod only, that's why you get prompted for Administrator privileges if an App needs them.

Is there a way to force an app to run in administrator mode?

Right-clicking the icon and choosing "run as administrator" didn't seem to work.

TBH, I uninstalled the app but would be interested to know for future reference. It would be annoying to right-click every time IYSWIM

You can force Admin Privileges in the shortcut of the App or directly in the executable.

    • Right click the shortcut > Properties > Compatibility > Check "Run this Program as an Administrator" > OK.

But to not run a program with Administrator privileges is a important security feature, so you only should do it if you have problems with a specific program.

Edit: And right click > Run as Administrator will work as well if there are no serious problems in your System.

  • I have the same issue with Command&Conquer. It ask for administrator privileges. Manually starting with Admin won't work. I think it's because the game don't have an EXE, it only start though the APP

  • Same issue with C&C.  And I can not get it to play....

  • Same issue with Command and Conquer. I get these two issues:

Needs administrator permissions - but does not prompt for administer access.

    Game begins to load

    I click Red Alert

and then it gives me the error that the game needs to be reinstalled. I have reinstalled 4x and tried every solution I can find. So frustrating.

I just tried a new idea. I went to the ea launcher location and set it to compatibility with administrator privilege's.

Then I tried it again. It actually opened but then once it opened it ran into the error that you see attached.

I hear the person saying: this will install red alert and it crashes.

Update: It worked!!! 🙂 I have played 4 missions. WOOT!!!

So, the above set of operations seemed to fix it.

Setting "Ealauncher" in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop or where you have the EA desktop to Administrator authentication in compatibility.

    Hi All,

Since I know many is still struggling with this issue here is my fix assisted by EA Support.

I had the same issue that all of you had with the ea play app that Mass effect does not want to work because it keeps asking for admin privileges, now I am the sole user on my PC and a IT Tech so the UAC prompts irritate the crap out om me all the time so on setup I disable this.

Now I have tried all these things mentioned as well.

regarding the admin rights to the app ea play and so forth.

What the EA Play Support gave me is the following:
https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/ ( i followed all these steps just for the sake of it.)
Also if your UAC (User access control) is turned off, turn it back on, this resolved the issue for me. 🤓
another thing and this I do not agree with but updating your Windows was also mentioned by the EA Support, which i did too.

PS: anyone is welcome to dm me for assistance.

On a side note... The EA Support was Great 🙌

Hoping this helps anyone that might struggle to get this working.

@NanakoMikoyup, this did nothing for me. I understand this is somehow still in beta, but man, this launcher.

Have you tried setting the ea app as admin? I have done this in combination with turning on UAC (Note just set UAC on the 2nd setting so it does not dim the screen.

Setting "Ealauncher" in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop or the location set on installation

Having the same issues described in this thread, however setting the EA Desktop exe to administrator via compatibility settings (along with trying to launch the ClientG.exe as administrator) did not work.

Anyone else get this to work?

@NanakoMiko Recognizing the screenshot (as I have the same issue) this is about Command & Conquer: Remastered.

Also tried the suggestions of running / setting as admin.

However when I launch the game i just get a pop-up from the EA App saying Admin permissions are needed for the game and if i want to grant them.

When pressed ok, the main menu of the game launches fine. However when either C&C or Red Alert are chosen it immediately crashes with the screenshot @ziggaWHAT posted
