Re: Can't install/reinstall EA Desktop

I always recommend deleting as many traces as you're comfortable messing with.

However, the problem with the "installer" you are all using is that it isn't actually an installer, but moreover a launcher that detects files, then either adds or triggers the installer in your program data files. Unfortunately it won't trigger the installer if there's traces left-over, but you can manually launch it yourself.

So, if you're seeing this message then you've already installed the game and this file should be in your computer.

To install it, simply follow the steps below:

Open Windows Explorer (or press Win+E), then copy and paste the following filepath into the navigation bar:

C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{C2622085-ABD2-49E5-8AB9-D3D6A642C091}v12.0.58.4866

Double click on the file in the folder called "EADesktop-12.0.58.4866-242.msi"

This will launch a legacy version of the installer that will allow you to choose an install location and just install it the old fashioned way.

If future users encounter this problem there may be different versions of the app with a slightly different name (like EADesktop-12.1.62.2112-344.msi). That's fine, you'll know the file when you see it. If this happens, the directory may change as well.

If the directory I listed above doesn't work, then follow these steps:

Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\

Then run a query for "EA Desktop" in Explorer's search function.

You'll see a folder that looks like the "{C2622085-ABD2-49E5-8AB9-D3D6A642C091}v12.0.58.4866" folder you see listed above, but with different characters.

You'll also see something with EADesktop quoted as being in it. That's your folder. Open that folder and run the msi installer inside.

After installing, simply restart your computer and launch EA Desktop from the Start menu.

From there, I recommend looking up how to use EA's programs to uninstall the app should any future errors occur. This way you don't run into the same issues again.

Hope this helps!! =)

ps: if you can't find the folder nor the installer, then I've uploaded the file to my Google Drive. I will keep it there until EA Desktop goes out of Beta

  • Thanks god, man, you save my frickin' sanity. 2 hours spent trying to get the EA Desktop out of my pc (couse, obviously, it WON'T unistall or appear in the control panel "unistall app" list) and your solution actually works. Don't know who you are, where you come from, but damn: i love you.

PS Why I wanted to unistall EA Desktop? Couse it doesn't work. Not a single launch, not a single time.

I was hoping this would work for me. But I still get the error of it showing "There's already a version of this installed", or "Something Blew Up". I tried everything from regedit, deleting all the files from my harddrive relating to EA Desktop and Electronic Arts, and tried revouninstaller it doesn't show up. And lastly your method, It didn't show up on my pc either. I don't know what to do from here, but now I can't play any EA Games with my friends. I'm upset about that.

    Hi @M1CYCL3,

I've been digging through quite a few of these topics and I have been giving different solutions to see what works, and here are the tips that usually work:

    1. Uninstall EA Desktop through the Windows > Apps settings to avoid running into this issue.
    2. Use the Microsoft Troubleshooter (specifically for issue like these)
    3. Using Revo Uninstaller worked for some players.
    4. Manually removing the Registry Keys for EA Desktop (only do so if you know what you are doing).

As you have tried most of this already, could you try the Microsoft Troubleshooter and let me know if it works?

I’ve tried Microsoft Troubleshooter. It doesn’t show up for uninstalling or installing. So I’m not sure what else to try.

@EA_Jason I've tried that as well. Although I found the fix that maybe hidden in front of our eyes. For those who can't find it in the Microsoft Troubleshooter. I tried it again. And there was one program that was named "Name Not Available". I wasn't sure if this is the file that I need to fix. But I took a risk, and low and behold it fixed it. Right after I uninstalled the program. I can now use the msi installer. 🙂 Cheers.
  • @M1CYCL3 Please look for the link in my post. I have the .msi available for download. You should be able to use that as an installer.

@twitch1t Yes I got another one from somewhere else. I was just explaining to anyone else that may still have troubles with the installer. Cuz I found my solution. Cheers 🙂
  • @M1CYCL3 Hey, I'm still having the issue and none of the solutions on this topic worked
  • @Aeckii Sorry I don't know how else to help you. The thing that helped me was using uninstall program. Found "Name Not Available" and Uninstalled it. It was a risk because I didn't know what program I was uninstalling, but it happened to be the EA Desktop. Hope you find your solution soon!
  • @M1CYCL3 Ok, tried that again just now and found two Name Not Available on the troubleshooter and one of them actually worked, I can finally use EA desktop again
  • This actually worked for me as well!

...running the microsoft repair-thingy that is.

  • this worked for me and i took the time to write this comment because it worked. thank you twitch1t o7
