Issue with MAUL Code Redemption

I entered the MAUL code through the web interface and received a message stating it was sent to my inbox. I also went into the game and claimed the message from my mailbox. However, Maul still hasn't been changed, and I don't understand why. Wasn't MAUL supposed to unlock as a 7-star character? How exactly do these codes work
