Re: EA account linking to a new Xbox Account

I think I am more than aware of what the thread is about, thanks though.

To clarify for you however, the majority of people here could not link a new Xbox account, not because 6 months hadn't passed, but because you could only ever link one account in a lifetime.

The system told us this when we tried, as did numerous technical support staff on chat and the phone, up until now that this policy appears to have been amended.

Again, it seems you're just further highlighting the points I made in my previous post  😕

I don't want to come across as somewhat confrontational, especially via the interwebs, but this whole thing has been incredibly frustrating for all of us that have been affected by it.

And it has meant we were effectively out of pocket from our game pass subscriptions being unfairly restricted from ea games due to fault of our own.

I'm the first person to give credit where it's due, as I did with the tech support who sorted this for me on chat, including a 5* survey afterwards. But when stuff isn't great that should also be called out and addressed, and these responses here just exasperate the issue and make EA look even worse tbh. Makes no sense to be like that. Ugh.

Edit - nice ninja edit to add more detail after accusing me of not knowing what this topic was about after someone else called it out too. I give up 🙃

Hey @N0rthernMonk3y I understand that you are frustrated but when posting on AHQ please do so in a polite and constructive manner, it is not ever acceptable to call out CMs.

As I said in my post above, a CM posted in this thread on the first page to let users know that it would be 6 months before an account could be linked again.

@EA_Darko The main issue of this and many other threads was that if you had, let's say account Xbox_A, linked to your origin account, once you unlink it you could never link a new account Xbox_B, cause the Origin account was forever tied to account Xbox_A (knows as "one account per lifetime" limitation). The 6 month rule is a different issue that, while annoying, is completely unrelated.

  • My posts were nothing but polite and were clearly written to be taken as critical but constructive feedback, to improve in the future, as it is clear to see.

My posts point out failings generally by EA, whom you guys represent. An appropriate reply to box this off straight away would have been along the lines of, you know what folks, were sorry this happened and we will look at it internally to try and make sure similar doesn't happen again. An apology goes a long way, but that shouldn't need pointing out really.

And again, we are 7 months down the line from this topic being opened and that response. But more to the point, that response wasn't even correct and people were still posting about the issue up to the present date.

It has never been about 6 a months wait to link another account. It's been mostly about the fact that up until very recently you could not ever link another xbox account to an ea account if you had ever at all linked one previously. 'One in a lifetime' ever, not 6 months ever as we have said many times. This has now thankfully changed, as someone was able to unlink and link a new one minutes apart with the help of tech support.

I'll may not post again because my comments are being twisted out of context and/or are not being understood. But I will follow up via an email to customer services as this just isn't right tbh.

    Cheers.

Great that even after explaining that the 6 month thing has nothing to do with our problem, the CM still persists on that answer. This kinda represents EA as a whole.

Err yeah.. the 6-month rule, although complete arse was not even close to the issue.

It was the one unique account link in its lifetime rule.

After 6 months, you could just manually re-link the same Xbox account you removed, hence the one-per-lifetime absurdity.

Unless of course, you are implying the next victim to come here with this issue we say "no problem friend, just wait 6 months"

Thanks to someone at Tech support not letting me know about the once per lifetime account issue they deleted my Xbox link when I wanted Steam unlinked I now have xbox linked to the wrong account that's some how using the same email for two different accounts when I tried signing back into my xbox game.

Okay, I'm at a loss here guys. What do I have to tell the support person to get them to help me? They're still telling me there is only one Xbox Account per lifetime possible and after pointing out this thread to him, he just repeats the wrong information EA_Darko has given here...

@Shikaar I assume not every support rep is aware of this change/exception. When I contacted support I simply said that I've noticed they're making an exception (according to some of the replies on this thread) and the support guy instantly knew what I was talking about and helped me. I would tell you to keep trying but the last time I used the live chat method multiple times, the button disappeared and I had to wait a few days for it to come back.

So my advice is to first mention the exception to the "one account per lifetime" rule and see what the support rep says

  • @suzuh So if my Xbox account was accidentally removed from my EA profile from tech support I should be able to re link my Account?
  • @suzuhThank you! The second support guy was able to help me without any issues! Thanks to Prabhat the best support guy. <3

@Tatts4Life If your account was removed and you want to link the same account you should be able to do that by yourself.

Make sure you're logged in with the right account on EA Desktop (close Origin) and the right account on the Xbox App, then download any EA game from the Xbox App (assuming you have Game Pass), and it should automatically start EA Desktop and ask you if you want to link the two.

  • I am pleased to see that there has finally been a resolution. I don't know what has driven this policy change but it's nice to see a result for most of us. It's been a long haul!

I think it's quite reasonable to expect to be able to change linked accounts from time to time. As technology matures and lets face it, data breaches do happen, people do have legitimate reasons to use different accounts on the same service.

As I said in the third post in this thread, there is no reason why the six monthly cooldown restriction couldn't apply to changing the third party account that is linked. i.e. One Xbox account every six months per EA account.

If this is an official EA policy change then it would be great if EA updated the information on the account unlinking page - https://help.ea.com/en/help/account/unlink-gaming-accounts-from-ea-account/ - which as of today still references the one account per lifetime policy. I was told by EA support on twitter to monitor this page as it would reflect any changes to the account linking policy.

CMs - I don't know if you guys had any influence in this change but myself and others did ask for updates several times between March and now but we didn't get much in the way of engagement. My frustration, and I suspect many other user's stemmed from the fact that we didn't feel we were being listened to. I would have been nice to have heard of this resolution from someone at EA rather than a forum user taking the time to let us know of his success. Maybe someone should do a blog post or something so that when the next person comes along searching they can find the correct information rather than wading through the first 27 pages of this thread.

Hat tip to @AssassinXDAhmed for letting us know - it's great that you took the time to post about your experience. You post is as close as we have to a solution so I will mark it as such.

Hopefully this change is solidified and communicated more clearly going forward.

  • @suzuh I tried that but it would bring up the wrong profile. Shout out to Ishan who was able to help me by delinking Xbox from my account and deactivating it so I was finally able to link to this account. EA’s system for some reason had the same email for two separate accounts. Even after changing the email address to the secondary account their system kept prioritizing my secondary account.

  • So in 2021 where this still seems to be an issue. What is the magical secret sauce that one has to do to allow one to connect a new XBOX account for example.

Just got the same canned response from @EAHelp on twitter.

  • How do I get on with EA chat? I put in an email request and it says it's going to take 3 days to respond to me.
