Runner on 2nd?

I just purchased Super Mega Baseball 4 for Nintendo Switch.  I noticed that during batting practice mode, each new inning begins with a runner on 2nd base.  Is this the way batting practice works?  It looks like the first inning or two started with no runners, but every inning after that had a runner on 2nd.
