PS5 slowdown in mid Chapter 4 onwards

I've been greatly enjoying the game. I'd say up until recently, even more than Monster Hunter. However, I've run into an issue that is quickly defeating that goodwill. I know PC users are experiencing issues as well, but I'll share mine:

Starting mid Chapter 4 I have been noticing additional slowdown on the PS5 during hunts. Around a 20-30% drop in responsiveness. It is not momentary, but consistent, as if the game shifted into a slower gear for the duration of the hunt. It is not only in multiplayer. I have soloed the game to this point, in addition to farmed in coop. It is simply happening with predictability and repeatability in Chapter 4 hunts, which is really frustrating, given the simultaneous increase in monster speed and aggression, and the ever more important reliance on perfect dodges and split-second katakuri timing. Very hard to do when you are stuck playing through molasses.

I know the PC is the more vocal platform, with a wider variety of issues on mid-level PCs, but the game has suddenly become near unplayable in Chapter 4 on the PS5, when up until now it has been great responsiveness for the most part.

Please look into this.

Edit: I hosted a game for a couple of friends, and I experienced good responsiveness again. Also in some solo play. Thinking now it possibly has to do with the host's world, and the katakuri in it? Sometimes the PS5 after long play sessions hits audio problems (fight music plays in a loop whether you are in the fight anymore or not and there is no environmental noises whatsoever). Restarting the PS5 fixes that for me. Maybe restarting fixes accumulated memory issues? Will test more, but sometimes bad slowdown plagues play and Chapter 4 is when it started for me. Had long play sessions in Chapters 1-3 no problem.

  • Yes, they need to address this slowdown.

I need them to at least acknowledge that they know about the performance issues on consoles and that they will be addressing it. As of right now, nothing has been said other than PC, which I know is also suffering, in many cases much worse, but this is still an important issue that they need to formally address.

  • Update: It has now become completely unplayable. The response is too sluggish. I can't enter an input to roll, dodge or put down a spring katakuri fast enough in response to a kemono attack to avoid it. I get hit every single time. Despite reading the move, and seeing a friend I am playing with evade and move out of the area with plenty of time and speed, I'm still stuck in slow motion trying to stow my weapon or initiate a roll as I am comboed by the kemono. This leads to a miserable experience where I am getting a hit or two in, taking every hit, and constantly healing, requiring my friend to do most of the heavy lifting. It was not like this in chapters 1-3. It is technically playable, as I can move around, but my movement is really slow. I arrive to fights 15-30 seconds behind anyone else and cannot dodge anything. Input feels like I am fighting through molasses and it is a miserable experience.

Also Playstation 5 player here. It is definitely getting worse and worse, in chapter 4 I've now had 4 mighty lavaback fights where it is constant slowmo going on. It feels like moving through quicksand or stuck in a swamp. Loving the game so this is really souring the overall experience when the game has gotten progressively worse the further you get. I have definitely experienced both the soundglitch (when all but the music disappears) and the slowmo in both online and solo hunts. Really hoping for a patch now :/

  • It's a fantastic game, the performance is the only thing holding it back.

  • Playstation performance has already been less than stellar from the get go. But at least it was playable. Definitely not 60fps which is what we should expect honestly.

But after reaching Chapter 4 the game SIGNIFICANTLY slows down. The to the point where it sometimes becomes unplayable because it is just way too slow for you to be able to react to the Kemono's attacks or set up combos. In multiplayer you might as well be playing microsoft powerpoint it is that slow.

Fix this game that clearly needed more time in the oven. It is genuinely a really fun experience. But these continued framerate issues ruin it.

Can't compete with Monster Hunter if your games don't work 🙂

I can confirm patch 1.0.5 makes it much better. I just played a couple of deadly volatile hunts and its much better than before

  • Same. I agree that it is now much better than it was before. When hosting, I believe there is a little bit of input lag, but that could just be latency. Slowdown seems (thankfully!) to be mostly addressed.

  • @EA_DavidThanks to you and the dev team for such a quick turnaround on this! The game went from amazing, to nearly unplayable, back to amazing again. It was very concerning to see that much slowdown come out of nowhere, but I'm glad it was a manageable fix for the platform.
