There are definitely some duds, tracks that there should never ever been even considered to host a sprint weekend - e.g. Baku. But I've mellowed out and came to really like sprints like those we've been having at Interlagos, Austria and Spa.
Sorry insisting on MotoGp sprints but they really worked over there and I caught myself thinking on why do sprints work for them? I guess it's because the field is compacted, rarely we get +1.0 sec gap between riders or groups of them.
Obviously that doesn't carry over to F1 but when you wrote about Interlagos, Spielberg and Spa some thoughts came to my mind:
+ Interlagos and Spielberg are short tracks so the feeling of a spread field takes some more laps to hit in.
+ However the longest track, Spa have plenty of turns and overtake opportunities.
+ Monza, Losail and Baku (forgot any?) neither are short or have plenty overtake points - so no compacted field, no overtaking, no engaging.
These certainly have been thought by them already and most certainly there's much more going when negotiating a sprint race for any venue.
But as much as you, I'm increasingly liking the sprint races.
(And let's not talk about reverse grid, deal?)
