23 (FFB) is so broken, who else has gone back to 22 sadly?
Basically the state of this years game and the FFB (lack of) with wheels has forced me to go back to 22, anyone else? Having to play 23 with a controller is straight up depressing when I have a rig...
@mariohomohCool, but i'm clearly not after settings, none of those settings help me with the wheel i have on console but that wasn't even the point of this topic, FFB is completely broken when it keeps dropping out mid race so settings are pointless.
The replies started off with a sarcastic tone and the discussion was taken to a point that should've been discussed elsewhere, i wanted to have a general discussion with people who are having the same issue as me, not be told by people who aren't having any issues what to do.
Plus its not a lack of FFB it completely drops off to nothing, it then prevents progress being saved when you exit said race and then disconnects you from online services, how tf is that clipping man c'mon....
You've also stated you've not got yourself setup for F1 23 yet so you have no hands on experience with how the FFB is right now.
@Hempyjr 70, maximum 75 if you really do need more strength. But too much will reduce details. If you need a bit more weight, add more damper. Not too much or it will be too unreactive.
@DavidGG53 Thanks, appreciated! Actually i like my wheel a little heavier and i have damper set to 30 or 35 if i remember correctly, i am sure it's not 4 or 5 how some esports players have it. Is that too much?
Piggybacking on what @DavidGG53 is saying, that sudden lack of FFB could very much be clipping. Happens when you ask for a certain strength of the FFB signal (by setting the slider in the game settings) way beyond what your wheel is capable of reproducing.
So it flatlines.
That Strength slider is there for everyone: those with a G923 wheel with 2.2Nm of peak torque (and God knows how much for constant or holding torque) and those with DD wheels in excess of 20Nm.
David is in a better position to speak to how that slider works, but if it's anything like the Gain (ACC), Strength or Max Force (iRacing) sliders from other titles you can totally mess up with your FFB.
Say it sets a scale for what should be the maximum force your wheel can cope with before clipping. If you set it to 100 with a G29 (2.2Nm too), the game will scale the forces so that going full beans uphill through Eau Rouge and Raidillon will output a 12Nm signal to your wheelbase.
What happens when you're going your merry way exiting the pits at Baku or Spain? Well, turns out that touching the kerb on pit exit at a measley 80kph already sends a 2.0Nm signal to your wheel.
Meaning it is already saturated, and anything higher than that inconsequential ripple on the kerb will be lost due to clipping, will be forever drowned in the flatland of a squarewave (pic above).
Goes without saying but I'm conjuring those numbers out of aether.
TL;DR: You can easily clip your FFB signal. Revert the strength back to the default settings and work up from there untill you feel that a highly demanding stretch like Parabolica in Monza, Eau Rouge or Pouhon in Spa, last sector in RBR etc. get the full torque out of your wheel, and everything else scales down reasonably from there.
Having set the correct FFB strength that way, you should set how heavy the wheel feels with the Damper slider. Don't go overboard with it though as you'll never feel the front tyres self aligning on oversteer, or the slack in the steering column during understeer, or the lively * left and right of the bumps and ripples of the tarmac.
If you set it so that "oooh spicey me like that" makes the experience of accelerating out of a standstill the busiest your wheel can get, everything that should feel stronger than that will... not feel like anything at all.
I'm still waiting for them to iron out the wheel bugs and the Trueforce issues with Logitech equipment before giving F1 23 a fair go. Really not in the mood to set up my rig and spend my time on it without assurance that it will work as intended. Might as well be playing ACC or iRacing.
The method I'll use though is the one I described.
