Can you get dropped from Elite rank?

So I’ve seen this question quite a bit, and it’s quite an important one for ranked players, particularly one’s trying to reach the top level. 

Is it possible to get dropped from Elite rank?

When asked about this, Alex Gillon said he thought no, it wasn’t possible, however streamers like THOMB have said they think you would be able to get dropped if you did a race and got into another ‘division’, but not sure. Are there even divisions for Elite? I thought it was just a leaderboard. Personally I think it should be that you can’t get dropped from elite, otherwise you’d have to play all year long to maintain elite rank, which is something people like THOMB and Tiametmarduk have said that they definitely won’t be doing. Elite players should be awarded for their effort to getting to the top echelon of ranked, by having their position saved for the entire game. 

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

    I bloody best hope it stays elite, not grinding this horrid game mode forever.

    My guess would be that you stay in Elite Division but only until the end of that season. I think this season ends in 30 days, after that there might be some sort of reset.

    Yeah it’s far from ideal. The point format needs adjusting, cars should ghost if they spin and should definitely be strict corner cutting in my honest opinion.

    Here's what I can confirm to you all after checking with the team:

    • Elite has no divisions, it is just a leaderboard of all players who have made it to the top rank (you can see it here as I got promoted today).
    • During the current Season, you cannot be dropped from Elite.
    • At the start of the following Season, all players (across all ranks) drop down to lower ranks.
    • Where they drop down to depends on where they ended up in the previous Season.

    • Elite >>> Gold
    • Gold >>> Silver
    • Silver >>> Bronze

    Additionally, if you make Elite in any Season, you'll be awarded with a set of customisation items commemorating your Elite status for that Season.

    You get these in your in-game mail the moment you get promoted (so, today if you made it up to Elite this week).

    You also unlock the relevant Trophy/Achievement when you fire up the game after promotion, if it's your first time in Elite in F1 23.
